At the risk of .... with the new Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT tires now on C6's (good article in Corvette Quarterly)... what are you guys/gals replacing your F1 Supercars with? I am keeping the stock chrome rims....wondering what everyone says about which tires you prefer....and yes, I am considering EMT's because the new Goodyears are being reported as better/softer/smoother...just not sure if the new tire is being made in the 2003 size (17 front / 18 rear). I need to come to a decision in the next week....all help appreciated...specific details requested....JDrew
The standard rim on the C6 has been upped to 18 front and 19 rear. So the standard (read smaller tread width C6 F1 EMT) won't fit stock Z06 wheels. The new C6 Z06 F1 EMT are sized the same but much wider and won't fit either.
You'll have to replace the wheel on the C5 Z to get the C6 F1 EMTs to fit. I'm sticking with a non run flat for now.
Thanks for the reply....I did get in touch with some Goodyear know-it-alls and was told the Eagle F1 EMT will be made in a size to fit my 2003 ZO6 "they are almost sure" but it won't come out until late August, if then. While that would be nice to perhaps go to the newer improved EMT, looks like I am back to just putting another set of F1 Supercars on it since no other tires appear to be better.
Good information.... I too will go with the new EMT's once they are available in 04 Z stock size. I hear there will not be a weight penalty with the new ones... Also a much improved sidewall so it should handle well too.
I think your plan is a good one... The stock tires are awesome... and when you are finished with the second set, you will know for sure if the EMT's are worth having...
In case you are interested.....page 62 of the Spring 2005 "Corvette Quarterly" has a good short article on the Eagle F1 EMT for the C6. Also has a good article on the "devil in disguise" C6 ZO6. It was based on this that I was prompted to try and learn what I could about this tire being available later in a smaller size for the C5 ZO6's.
