I had a 1990 300ZX non-TT in the gold color they only made for a few months when the car was introduced. It really was a great car.

I'm not sure what answer you might expect to get on a Corvette Forum? The TT version of the 300ZX was prone to have expensive problems as the mileage goes up. Kind of like owning an old Porsche ... you can buy them right ... but hope nothing goes wrong.

Buy a C5 ...

I wish I could but I'm 19 years old and havin to pay insurance on both would be hard enough, let alone leasin a vette. And I wouldn't want to lease a vette because I wouldn't be able to mod it out for the drag strip. And I still live at home so I only get one spot in the garage. If I plan on sellin the 300zx I would put a heatly payment down on the vette and go from there. Oh and I would buy a 97-00 vette.

Yeah I have a 90 as you did, but this one seems to not have many problems, but anythin is expensive when ya do somethin to the engine on them because everytime the engine has to get pulled

The 300ZX is a great car, infact I have had more Z's than C5. I have had a two 91, 92 and 94 all 2+2. I LOVED them for the time they were one of the most refined sports cars of there time. The C5 has a lot more power NA than a TT. The car rides as smooth. The Z will be a lot quiter to cruise around in and the ergonomics(sp) is a LOT better in a Z. I really like how the cockpit is layed out. Get a C5 if you can, its moving up.

Thats what I figured too. The corvette has more power potential than the Z. And the Z isn't really set up for the 1/4mile just for the road courses. Where as the corvette seems to be more set up for the 1/4mile the than Z, IMO.

I think you answered your own question - you like the 300ZX, but you like Vettes even more. If you can sell the 300 and afford a C5, then go for it.

Drive what makes you happy. If you gotta have a C5, go for it. If you like them now, wait until you own one. You'll experience a higher plane of automobile nirvana.

If I were 19, I'd be glad to have either one...

But since you asked, get the Vette.

DUDE! Me and you are like twin brothers. Finding your post shocked me a little because I am living through the exact same experience.

I have a 1990 Twin Turbo 300ZX. Im selling it right now because I just bought a '97 Corvette last weekend. Here's a link to my autotrader ad for my Z...

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...sp=y&cardist=0

Hopefully you can see from the ad that it's a sweet looking Z. I have kept her running like a champ since I bought her 3 years ago. Shes as fast as stock automatic Twin Turbo Z can be. And I have loved her with all my car-loving heart. Spent every penny necessary to keep her running as fast as when I bought her.

Now. Let me tell you in all honesty....BUY. THE. VETTE.

I will always love my Z's. But Im not all that fond of the 350. I think they fumbled the ball on the new design. The 350 is trying to compete with 911's in styling...when I really think it should have aimed higher. Ive owned two 280 z's when I was younger....figured I would be a Z guy my whole life. It says a lot that I didnt buy the 350 when I had a chance to upgrade.

Having said all that let me tell you about my C-5 Corvette. It is WAY faster than the Turbo Z. No contest at all. The automatic I have spins its wheels every time I floor it, anywhere from 20 MPH to 45. My beloved Z never did that.

A moment of sheer honesty though. I tried to test the limits of the corvette on Mullholland Drive here in LA this week. I did the same thing in my Z a year ago. And to be honest, the stock suspension in the Corvette isnt as good as the Z's. The 300 ZX Twin Turbo is glued to the pavement under every cornering situation. I think it might be my own inexperience with the power of the vette though. I am not used to the back end kicking out from underneath me due to the amazing power of the Vette V-8. Once I am used to that, maybe I will change my mind. It just seems to bounce around more when hitting the limits of cornering while accelerating. I bet the Z-51 suspension upgrade will help that a lot.

Overall I just want to tell you there is really no comparing the two. The Vette is in a whole other league. Its prettier and way more powerful, even in Automatic Stock the way mine is.

Its really up to you though. Stick with the car that makes your heart sing. My Z had 165K miles on it, and was starting to cost more in repairs than buying a new car would be.

My own experience in the same boat has left me thanking the car gods for my decision to upgrade to the Vette. I have never been happier. I bet you will experience the same thing. Im jealous you are getting to do these things at such a young age!

Have fun deciding!~~~JadeDragon (Patrick)
