Radiator Air Baffles??????
Hi -
I was working way late last night (early this morning) putting my 2001 back together. As some know, I'm rebuilding a front-wrecked 2001, and the entire front bumper assy. was gone when I purchased. Therefore, I've got to piece a lot toghther based upon parts diagrams and shop manuals. Challenging, but fun, and final product VERY worth!! Here's the question:
I was getting set to install the radiator/a/c condensor, and the 2001 GM shop manual mentions something about the "Radiator Air Baffles." The shop manual then had a picture that didn't look at all familiar. I've looked at the Parts CD, and I can't find any "Radiator Air Baffles," and none were present when I removed the lower radiator support and the radiator. However, everthing between the lower radiator support and the front license plate was GONE when I got it.
My question: What are the "Radiator Air Baffles" that the shop manual is referring to? Is it the same as the "Front Air Deflector?" I seem to recall a section in the shop manual about replacing the "Front Air Deflector" and it was a different section than the "Radiator Air Baffles" section that has me puzzled.
If anyone needs a volune number/page number for the "Radiator Air Baffles" which has me puzzled, I can post it later. Was I working too late, or what is the manual referring to?
Thanks as always. Everyone's help is always GREAT!!
Bill.

I re-checked my GM shop manual regarding my question, and I still am puzzled.
In Volume 3 of 3, page 8-869 of the shop manual, the manual covers "Air Deflector, Front Bumper" which is to replace the middle section of the Air Deflector which is attached to the skid plate. I understand this and I am familiar w/ these parts and the installation process.
HOWEVER, . . .
In Volume 2 of 3, page 6-503 of the shop manual, the manual covers "Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors" and refers to "Radiator Baffles" and the removal and installation of the "radiator baffles." Here I am totally confused. I can't find the "radiator baffles" on the parts CD, and the illustration on page 6-503 and 6-504 doesn't resemble any part of the frame/radiator that I see.
Did GM screw up and put some other car's "radiator baffle" section in the 2001 Corvette shop manual?
Anyone?
Thanks Much!!! Bill.

Maybe its something left over from the early days of the C5. On my 97's radiator fan support there were a couple of flapper valves that covered openings in the support and probably allowed air to bypass the fans at high speeds. At low speed with the fans running the low pressure area between the radiator and the support would have kept the valves closed so all air would have gone through the fans. My 03Z did not have these valves.

First, my shop manual is only for the 2001 Vette, so it is limited to that year. Next, I looked again last night, and I too am wondering if the "Radiator Air Baffle" section that has me puzzled is, as PTDRUMMER suggests, actually the "lower radiator support."
I can't find any place in my shop manual which covers repair/replacement of the "lower radiator support." Also, If i use MUCH imagination, I suppose that the "Radiator Air Baffle" illustrations in the service manual could be referring to the "lower radiator support." It is a P--- Poor illustration.
