dumb question - but the center caps just pop off the rims right, i'm going to be pulling wheels for the first time and i'd rather not break the plastic center cap if i can avoid it.
If you want to remove the center caps, wrap a towel or rag around a screw driver or use one of those paint can openers. Take your time and they should pop right off.
far easier to take the wheel off, then use the butt of a rubber handle hammer or wood stick and 'pop' them off from the back side. Less likely to break a tab, then have caps that rattle. That REALLY sucks!

you can do that, but be careful; I scratched one like that. If you're taking the wheels off, just do it while they are off.

Yes, they just pop right off. When I have removed mine, it has been with the tire off the car. You can remove them either of two ways: I have used the handle of a hammer to gently tap them out from behind. Just be sure to have a soft place for them to land to avoid scratches. Or you can reach your fingers down into the lug nut area and simply pull outward on the cap. It should release fairly easily, but on occasion it is held in pretty tight with the clips, thus the handle of a hammer method.
