Default Tail Pipes Not Even

Has anyone tried to re-align the stock tail pipes when one side is lower than the other? I was wondering if they can be adjusted so they are even horizontally?

When I installed mine I found that there are two slots in the hanger. One was high one was low. Did them both in the top slot. Hope that helps.

...Mike makes an excellent observation. My car was in the shop to have the "leaky butt" problem resolved, which required removal of the left side muffler assembly. When the tech reassembled the unit he put the mounting blade of the muffler in the bottom slot of the rubber mounting block instead of the top slot...making the left side tips noticeably lower than the right side. You can look through the two slots on either side of the rear fascia to see where the blades are inserted. The good thing is that you can fix this problem yourself in about 15 minutes...the two bolts that hold the mounting block to the rear are easily accessible.

This is one fix, if this doesn't solve your problem the next best place to make adjustments is at the flange where the over the axel pipes marry to the H/X-pipe. Loosen the two bolts and then grab the exhaust tips and rotate up or down as needed. You may only get a 1/4 of an inch adjustment at the flange but it grows considerable by the time you get to the tips.

Good luck

Tom

Just be careful not to lose the bolts up inside the fram when you re-start the nuts. That can be a nightmare to find them once they are floating around inside the rear frame section!!!

stock pipes I assume?

determine the reason they're uneven and correct it....... i don't mean to sound like a smart a**. start from the h-hipe and work your way back. pull the pipes, apply a little heat, and adjust where/as needed.

and the mufflers uneven? (over axle pipes need adjustment).... are the mufflers even? (tips need adjustment)

Do they look like this.

I'm going to order a set of GHL's, I'll fix the problem then.

yep there is, but I had read that only one is supposed to be used for the muffler. The "other" slot doesn't even go all the way through the rubber block - until someone forces it to.

That's why I asked of the exhaust had ever been removed.

If all else fails; there is a high-tech method for making them level. Determine which two tips are higher, place
foot firmly on top of that specific sides pair, apply pressure downward.

I can't figure out what you are talking about. I had Z06 exhaust installed on my '04 vert and the left side has always been higher then the right. I read this comment once before and when I had my rotors replaced, I looked at the muffler hanger and there was only 1 slot. What year vette do you have and do you have a picture of these 2 slots?
