I thought about your opinion and even though you are clear about not judging anyone who does this, It still causes me to feel slightly offended... I DO agree with you and others about putting badges and the like on cars that clearly are not what is advertised. However, wheels are like your hairstyle or the clothes that you wear, to me. It's a persons style or expression. We are all unique. I LOVE my ZO6 wheels
Boy, I bet this becomes a popular thread. Let's see.....
Your right, i'm a coupe, not a Z06...you don't see me with brake ducts or other Z06 parts...however i'm a college student and straped for cash, the Z06 motorsprots are the same style, but nobody looks at them and thinks of them a z06 wheels.
Chris
i do agree with you for the most part though. im not a big fan of the Z06 wheels to begin with. right now im in the process of buying a set of black motorsports though.
i think the main reason people do this is because of price. i personally care more about speed and performance than looks. i told myself from day 1, that i wouldnt change my stock 01' wheels. i couldnt justify spending 2500 on wheels. sure it looks awesome, but out of my price range. but i realized that with the vendors and reproduction wheels we have access to, i can get a "new" set of wheels for $800. i can def. justify spending $800 to completely change the look of my car. i would NEVER do chrome Z06, but i like the black... and like chris said, most dont even identify them as Z06 wheels.
If we had a bigger choice in aftermarket wheels that were reasonably priced, you would see significantly less people using Z06 or such.
Its just a matter of availability vs. cost.
I truely doubt many with Z06 wheels would have chose those over some of the CCW and HRE styles if the costs were the same.
Sure there would be a few who "prefer" the factory look, but i'd be willing to bet 80-90% would look at the other styles as preferred if cost were not a factor.
Wheels simply compliment the look of whatever car it's on. Some stock wheels look good enough to use on other cars/models, many do not.
I've seen late 60's Camaros with Z06 wheels, C4's with Z06 wheels....they look great and fit the look of the car well. I don't for a second think they are trying to be Z06 wannabes...they just put a (reasonably priced) good-looking wheel on their car.

I don't agree, but everyone has their opinion on what should or should not be done to the car. I have reproduction Z06 rims, Z06 front screens and the rear brake ducts on my coupe and love the look. Is it a Z06 - not by a long shot but I don't claim it to be either. They were just mods that I like and think looks good on the car.
I see a lot of people agree with you! People have been putting different rims on cars for decades. Put the rims on your car that you like, and that is all that matters. Also alot of people had 97-99 wagon wheels like I did. If you want to keep stock looking wheels there are only 2 other choices, 2000-up Wheels, or Z06 Wheels. Z06 wheels are an excellent choice for rims on any Corvette. I've even had Z06 guys complement me on my Z06 Chromies. Hey, you wanna buy my wagon wheels, or would that be posing as a 98.

The practice of taking the rims from one model car and putting them on another car that didn't offer them originally goes back decades!
Back in the fifties, guys looking for a cool look took the original spinner (No - not that trash that they use on Escalades today! )hub caps from Oldsmobiles and put them on their Chevies.
Guys who bought a basic model car would go to hub cap dealers and buy the top of the line wheel covers to dress it up.
If I owned a Chevy back in the fifties and put Oldsmobile spinners on it - would that make it an Oldsmobile?
I see nothing wrong with updating the look of the car with different wheels than it came with - even the C6 style on the C5.
Personally (just my opinion, please) I don't care much for the Z06 Motorsports, mostly because they're so common and I don't like the look of the allen head screws. I run chrome wagon wheels on my car - and I could probably fill the Yellow Pages with names of people who hate wagon wheels. That's cool....you do what you want on your car, I'll do what I want on mine!
While we are sharing opinions, I'll toss mine out. I think this is a silly issue. It's not as if someone putting Z06 or C6 rims on a C5 has any reasonable chance of fooling someone into thinking that the car is something it isn't. In that sense, it is fundamentally different than adding badges that are harder to identify as improper.
They are just freaking g*dd*amn rims. It is just another wheel option...that is it. If someone likes the look of a rim...I see no problem wih slapping them on.
All of those that have a problem with putting Z06 or C6 rims on the car, please explain why...other than stating that it just seems wrong. If you contend that it is similar to pacing badges, etc...on the car, please support your position.
Everyone is entitiled to their opinion. Some things just don't look right to some people. I personally think if you are putting an oem look wheel on a car, you should stay within the generation. For example, if you have a C4, u can put on any C4 OEM look rim including the ZR1 rims and it will look good. But if u put a C5 wagon, 5 spoke, Z06, or C6 rim on, it just looks wrong to me. So does the C6 rim on a C5. Just my opinion- and different opinions are what makes this world go round. There is no right or wrong, just subjective opinions. My $0.02.
I did'nt think I would hit a nerve with some of the replies. I stated from the begining, everyone has their own styles and if they like what rims they place on their cars....then I love it.
Several of you made my point for me, however. The look of the rims are great but it's about economics. The ZO6 Motorsports are much more affordable than other aftermarket rims, plus you get a decent eye appeal also.....more bang for your buck.
Oh and for the guy who offered me his wagon wheels and asked me if I would be a poser of a 97-98, That was the funniest response of them all.
Other's who thought I was being over the top with the question.....man.......it was just a thought, I was'nt condemming anyone who decides to swap out thier rims.
