What don't you like about them? The F1 Supercar tire (I assume 2001 and 2002 use the same tire) is one of the better dry/wet street tires out there. If you want better dry grip, go with BFG G force KD or step up to Toyo RA1 (R compound). The only tire I know that performs better in wet and dry is the new Mich PS2. Just be ready to fork over a few extra bucks.
The F1 SC's do have very good dry grip. It goes away in a BIG hurry after 50% treadwear, at least in my experience.
After Discount tire told me the price went up to a whopping $360 for each rear, I just mounted a set of Kumho Ecsta MX's for $1050 out the door for all four.
lvettegirl and I both do DE events. She swears by the grip and long life of these so I am giving them a try. she does get around the track in a hurry on them, that's for sure.
they also have the most wicked and aggressive tread design I have ever seen. Looks like you have snakes coiled around your wheels!
The Goodyears were downright dangerous in the rain here in Alabama. Switched to Kuhmo MX. They were great in the rain, but only lasted 18K miles. Switched to Toyo Proxies and they seem to be wearing better but only have 10K miles on them. They have a better treadwear rating than the other two.
Now I do not take my car to the track and we get heavy rains here so the Goodyears don't work for me.

If you want superior traction, I recommend the Nitto 555R11's. The drawback is that the tread depth is only 5/32". Great all around tire for autocross, drags, etc., but not very good for stretching them out to 25-30,000 miles. I don't drive my car in the rain, so I have no advise for you on that matter.

The MX's are a great tire for the money. The only negative seems to be a very slight decrease in steering feel??? (have not personally run these) The KD's are a little better dry tire, but you will pay a little more for them. I have run these. Great grip, predictable at the limit, and actually last a long time for this type tire. If you are tracking the car, I would recommend either the Toyo RA1 (these will be my next set) or the Nitto 555 R2 as Bills Z06 said. These are "full tread" R compound tires. Don't expect to get more than about 10K miles, if that. You can get a set of Toyos for less than $1000.
To summarize my recommendations:
100% street driven car - MX's on a budget, KD's or F1's otherwise.
Street and Track/Autocross (assuming you only have one set of wheels) - Any of the above will work fine, but if you want ultimate grip try the Toyo RA1 or Nitto 555 R2.
Rain tire - nothing will be great in the rain, although the new PS2 is supposed to be the best dry/wet 100% street tire to date (have no experience with them).
This can be a costly mistake for owners like me unable to do back to back comparisons in all weather conditions. I needed two new front tires since my camber was way off which chewed up my fronts. So I opted to buy two new GY F1's in the larger 275/40/17 size since I had my car aligned and removed about 50% of the Z's camber. The rears measured in at 5/32nd and still look like new – guess I’m not a lead foot like many.
I'll run them through the summer and early fall before I replace them. My Z is a cruiser not a racer so I figure a little less camber will increase my tire life.
I just recently replaced my tires at 20000 miles...I went with the original Goodyears...I bought them new for 900 ..Got a great deal from a guy in Michigan who bought up all the C5 Z parts when GM produced the last C5 Z..
Just put on the Michelin PS2's. Took a 400 mile trip. I still stick with my post a few weeks ago. Much quieter, excellent in the rain at full tread, not as quick to launch-which probably means that I won't wear them out at 7k miles like the F1's. I notice a fair difference in grip. But since it's my daily driver-worrying about the rain versus a quick launch-had to go with the PS2's. Total cost app. $1320 (includes install) so not that much different than the F1's.

Are you saying the GY's traction is better than the PS2's?

Ive noticed that the BFG gforce doesnt come up much on these threads. Is there a reason for that? I love their truck tire and planned on running them on my (soon to be at least) Z.
Something I should know?
Also, i thought the F1s and SCs got horrible tread life?
I have ran Kumho ECSTA for a track/street tire. Great in the dry and well I can not say anything is great in the rain. When I get caught in it, I am not a happy camper and I am not going to see how well the tires grip in it. They make a 275 40 17 for the front but the 305 35 18 for the back are just about impossible to find, so I went with 30s. Not cheap, and they are a R compound, but damn sticky. Probably not a good idea for a daily driver. Have several Vette friends that swear by the MXs and I will be using them for street duty when I get back.
Dave
you should probably tell us that if we are going to recomend a tire.
I mean if we tell you about an awesome tire... you might HATE it too!
I say kumho MX, if your cheap, and BFG KD if your not.
But i just replace mine with f1's.
I havent driven a faster street tire on the road course or at the strip than F1.
i think it is a PHENOMINAL tire.
I have foudn that folks that drive with their traction control on, sometimes dont liek f1's ..........
I hate them because I dont like the way the car handles in the rain, and when cornering with these tires the car feels like it is looseing traction when cornreing. I have deceided to go with Firestone wide ovals there seems to be alot of positive feedback about them. I wasnt going to buy new tires until the winter but had a very close call yesterday SEE BELOW

So Im off to get new tires all around I deceided on the firestone wide ovals hope there better than the goodyears the goodyears were terrible in the rain. Turns out the ******* driving the tow truck didnt store the one of the hooks they use to hold the cars down and thats what I hit. I wish I could have gotten his plate# to sue the bastard!!!!!
Best bang for the buck is the Toyo T1S. Remember Nitto is Toyo's value(cheap) line. Due to the construction of all the premimum Goodyear Eagles (F1, F1GS, F1SC, F1GS-2, F1GSD3, and GS-C) the compromise will be some steering response and EMT options that are available in the first four Goodyear models. The Pirellis that I ran (Assimetrico's) split the difference between Goodyears and the Toyos, but seemed to wear really quick. The Toyos are quieter, excellent in inclimate weather, and have great uniformity. I run the Toyos on my C5 and my wife's 330I with no compliants or concerns. I work all three of the above lines all day, everyday. Get the Toyos.

I love my Toyo T1S's....quiet, aggressive tread design, great in the rain, great dry traction and the wear is good! Also, something to think about, with the Toyo's, my road rash and pebble chips along the bottom front to the back by the brake duct has stopped due to the harder compound.
Well-must say that at full tread and doing 70 mph in the rain-the PS2's hug the road-no feeling of loss of control. So far haven't had the usual So. Fla. rain deluge that floods the highway but this is definitely an improvement. To answer the traction question-I would say that there is a marked difference in traction btwn the F1's and the PS2's in dry condition. You do not get the same grip during launching.
The other issue right now is that I am noticing increase outside road contact with the Ps2's that will probably lead to uneven wear. Was wondering if this might need a different alignnment vs the F1. Weird...
