Default Brake Mod Suggestions Please . . .

I'd like to improve my braking via larger rotors/calipers. Aiming at better braking performance for auto-x and road course. Suggestions? Experiences? Track durability? Costs? I'm running HRE wheels -- 18" front and 19" rear, so I should have ample room for larger rotors??? Thanks!

StopFORCE rotors and VnM upgraded calipers. That's my coupe pictured on the StopFORCE website. I'm not affiliated with them... just a satisfied customer.

http://www.stoptech.com/ or the new brembo system is very good as well. Many of us are running big brake systems with HRE's.

BEWARE OF VNM and Mark Dawson (30yeardream).

Several of us have had problems with him. I am still waiting on rotors from a GP that he had back in January.

He has my money for three months now, and I HAVE NOTHING but excuses from him.

Search for VnM, 30yeardream, or Mark Dawson. Try to find the thread titled..., TERRIBLE ON-GOING EXPERIENCE WITH: Mark Dawson aka VNM.

You will find out why many of us on the forum are calling VNM - Vendor No More!

I would suggest the LGM Wilwood Setup . Lots of guys over in AutoX/RR section have that set-up and I'm saving up for it myself. The major advantage of this system is that you can still run NAPA rotors for $25 each vs. much higher cost for 14" rotors. Also, the system will pay for itself if you are at the track enough. The pads are thicker and don't cost as much, but with the 6-piston design, the won't taper at the track, so they last longer. John Shiels said he got 3x the pad life with them.

As for the StopFORCE rotors, I got less than 500 track miles out of them before they started to crack. No better than the NAPA rotors for durability in my experience, but they do look good.

Another good idea is brake ducting. DRM with LGM Spindle Ducts is a great setup. or you could make your own. Do a search for "Mobil 1 ducts" in the AutoX road racing section.

Also, I would suggest picking up a set of Track wheels that you can beat the hell out of and not worry about messing up your HREs. A set of C4 GS wheels is a good choice either 17x9.5 front, 17x11 rear or 17x11 all the way around. the other good option would be a set of CCW track wheels.

If you are an experienced driver or money is no object The Speed WC C6-Rs you StopTech Brakes. You can see more information on that set up here

The ultimate C5 brake set up would be the AP racing. DRM sells this set up for $6500

If you are going to autoX, make sure you check the rules for the class you want to run before you do anything.

If you have never done been to the track before, forget all of this, buy some good pads and flush the brake fluid and go learn something.

Did you contact them about the failure? The StopFORCE product is based on Porsche 993TT blanks, and I have never heard of this happening to anyone.

I consider rotors a wear Item and I'm pretty hard on rotors. The track where they finally cracked is one of most brutal tracks for brakes and tires that I have ever heard of (Hockenheim). I don't think that there is any rotor made for less than $1000 each that will last much longer than Raybestos rotors so I'm just going for economy.

I don't want to say that they are bad rotors because they are not, probably the only good looking rotor that could have held up to what I put it through, and they are probably the perfect rotor for the guys that want performance and bling. If you are only doing a couple of events per year, they're great, but start going to the track several times a month and they burn out like any other rotor.

Hello Lancer,

I happen to be the owner of StopFORCE and wanted to jump in here real quick. I'm no longer a sponsor of the forum because of costs so I will make my post short and less of a sales pitch but rather a chance to explain the product a little better.

You have the extreme benifit of having such tracks as Hockenheim in Germany, I envy you! Been over there and I love the land. I even had fun taking a 02 Audi TDI Wagon rental on the Autobahn at top speed for over 10 minutes.

Our rotors have stood up to many track days. Personally I have logged over 5,000 track only miles on our rotors (obviously not the same pair). The biggest thing is withstanding constant heat buildup with no cool off time.

Over here in the US many track days rotate between run groups. That being said that allows for around 15-20 minutes of run time and about 30-40 minutes of cool down time between sessions.

Many tracks in Europe such as the Nurnburgring have a open track. You pay for how many laps you want to take and then have at it, stopping only when you want or need to. That kind of driving is simply not what stock sized rotors are capable of, regardless of the brake maker. Nothing short of a complete brake replacement/upgrade kit will suffice IMO.

Regarding the cracks. I have seen them before. However I have only seen this happen after the rotors surface has been worn WAY past the rated min thickness of the rotors surface.

If you feel this is not the case I would be more then happy to take a look at them. Or trust your digital camera and your measuring tools to report its thickness. Please send me an e-mail.

All the best,
Aaron Lephart
