I was browsing throught thelapd site looking up performance parts and saw the throttle body bypass and the claims of gaining horsepower. it looks like a metal tube and clamps...how does this increase hp for the vette? Does it even increase hp?

It's cr@p and it's too expensive for what it is and it doesn't do anything but I bought one anyway
Hot water circulates through the Throttle Body from the factory. The little tube and hose clamps (net cost $2) bypasses the TB. This allegedly reduces the intake air temperature and thereby increases horsepower. Yeah right.
Oh, and it's $20. But it counts as a mod so I bought it anyway

Purpose is to keep the throttle plate from possibly sticking [freezing] closed when vehicle is not running and if very humid air[moisture] should be present in throttle body passageway during low ambient operation.
The area surrounding Tb is a cavity through which engine coolant circulates.again to heat plate to prevent temporary seizure. The theory in installing the bypass is you lower the incoming air temp to the engine. Lower air temps=denser air therefore more volume= more Hp. In actuality the flow of the air stream is so fast it is not in contact with the TB long enough to possibly lower its temp.
As EG says, junk. Remove the valve stem caps for the same HP gain.
