Default After Oil Consumption Test Wow!

Well I Posted A Few Months Back That I Would Post Results.
First Of All This Is A Speedway White 01 Z06 With Mod Interior
General Motors Had Approved To Have Re-ring Done On Out Of Warranty Vehicle. Took Z Into Morse Chevrolet For Re-ring .after Tear Down Of The Z No. (5) Cyclinder Wall Was Damaged Severely. After Working With Morse Chevrolet In Overland Park, Ks. Service Dept. And Phone Calls To Factory Rep.. I Now Have A New 405 H.p. Ls6 Installed In My 01-z06. The Question I Have Does This Make My Z-06 Any More Rare? Also Does This Take Away Or And To The Value Of A 01-z06,speedway White With Mod Interior With A 2004 New Ls6 Motor? Oh If You Live In The K.c. Mo. Area Don't Hesitate To Take Your Z To Morse Chevrolet In Overland Park,ks.. The Service Dept. From Top To Bottom Is First Class Operation.

Hi RICHARD D. HUDSON SR -

I Now Have A New 405 H.p. Ls6 Installed In My 01-z06.
congrats!

The Question I Have Does This Make My Z-06 Any More Rare? Also Does This Take Away Or And To The Value Of A 01-z06,speedway White With Mod Interior With A 2004 New Ls6 Motor?
More rare? yes, but not to add value IMO. Rare only in the sensethat it is an 01 with an 02 engine and not many have this - but not rare as in it adds a ton of value to the vehicle.

It might add saleability as some are cautious ragarding '01s due to the potential oil use issue, but it would not add or subtract from the resale value in any significant way.

You have the rarest C5 that I know of - a SW Z06. and I think one of the most beautiful of them all.

best regards -

Hey Jim, that's great! Congrats! I still haven't called GM about my 01, I've been trying to get thru a tire isse recently. I do still plan on calling and will let you know how it goes...again congrats. Glad to see GM doing the right thing here. It inspires a little bit of confidence.

A new 04 LS6 will make the car worth more to buyers looking for something special. Will it make it a collector - I doubt it. Make sure you keep all of the documentation, that may add to the cars cache down the road.

Make sure to carefully break in this motor and then get it on a dyno. Many folks are reporting the 04 LS6 is slightly stronger due to less fat in the AFR's. Will be interesting to see just what it is they installed for you.

Glad GM stood behind this.

Tom

Hi Afvette
I Plan On Getting Dyno In The Next Few Weeks After Breakin Period Is Over.gm Was Great To Work With This Time. But I Did Have A Issue With Them On Upgrade To New Clutch Purchase. I Did Have To Paid For That But At Their Cost(462.61) With Taxes. I'm A Happy Camper Now.i Will Post Dyno Results Later . Now To Go Have Some Fun. Love The (z) @ This Forum

Yeah, this is cool, and if you sell it, you can say there is no oil problem, and you get 15 more HP, so yes your 01 is worth a little more now.

Not sure if this matters. But now it is not the origional #s matching block for that VIN. Since the GM paid for it and as long as you keep the documentation it probably won't matter. Of course I'm thinking like 30 years down the road.

In the short run it doesn't matter, but in the long run it is just another one of those cars with non matching serial numbers no matter the excuse.

In the collectible car world maching number is the only thing. Like the previous reply, 30 years down the road. Just enjoy the car.

I'm impressed that the dealer did the right thing for you. That's great. I'm wondering if they changed your air filter from the 01 to the 02-04 design. That is something you'll want to do to get full use of the new engine. I like to keep mine stock, but lots of folks swear by the various after market designs. My only point is that there is a big difference in the flow of the later model (at least it sure looks that way when you see them side by side.) I get the new one.

What about the exhaust? Did they change to the 2 cat system. I'm amazed that they changed out the whole engine and not just short block. Programing it most have been an issue for them since they have different cam specs from 01 to 04.
Nice to hear god things about GM customer service.

Hi 1 Nasty Z
I Had The Same Questions.not Only The Cats&exhaust But The Maf,clutch Assembly, air Filter. After Gm. Rep. Contacted Factory Engineering. They Said It Was Not Necessary To Change Exhaust Or Cats Or Maf.i Decided To Go Ahead & Replace Clutch With New Redesigned Gm.clutch Found On 02& Up Z06.also Already Had Halltech Stinger On The Z. It Has Not Set A Code So Far Iwill Post If Something Comes Up. Love This Forum

More rare, not really it was not made that way at the factory, it was a warranty repair. Point being it was not an actuall Corvette option on 01. Had Gm made 1 Zo6 in 01 with an 405 hp ls6, that would be something.

The up side is I think the car is worth far more now with the new LS6, I assume that came with a warranty. This in and of itself will make your car worth more money

As for numbers matching, thats all well and good if you what to collect or show, but for must of us, do I really care if your new LS6, has the matching number on the block, not really. Given the choice between an 01 with all original, and yours with a new ls6, I would be after yours. You made out great, enjoy it

It is also great to see GM do something like this, it instill a sense of confidence in thier warrantys

CONGRATS my friend on getting GM to do the right thing any giving you the KILLER 405HP LS6 motor. Over the course of the next 10 years i really don't think this will affect the value of your car one way or the other (especially trade in value) but man, you are really ready to ROCK AND ROLL NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would assume they replace the PCM or if possible, reflashed it with the 04 codes. ????
