I've been reading through a lot of the C-5 threads and haven't come across any on the 2nd gear skip shift feauture. How annoying is this and do all manual cars have it and how hard is it to disengage? T.I.A.
Gat a CAGS Eliminator - many vendors offer it. You unplug the connection to the solenoid, plug in the CAGS elimninator and never worry again. Takes longer to get under the car then it does to install.

This was the first mod I did to my car. Takes about five minutes to do the job, including jacking up the car.
I never shift below 3 grand. If you drive it like it's meant to be driven you will never even know that CAGS exists.
I bought the CAGS bypass even before my 99 C5 arrived. Because of all the whining on this site about the forced 1 to 4 shift. How was I to know so many people granny shifted a C5.
The bypass sits somewhere in my house because I never saw the need to install it.

CAGS only interferes between about 1400 to 1800 RPM. If you shift out of first at 2K, you'll never know it's there.

Ah, I was wondering what r.p.m.'s it worked at I'm not much of a granny shifter so I probably wouldn't notice it. It always seemed like a dumb idea to me for G.M. to do, usually people who buy sportscars aren't all that concerned with fuel economy.

that's for sure, even on stands I had to take the left rear wheel off to get under the car without a crawler, & I'm only 180 #s.
