I finally got the right combination of not fighting off the flu, not being burried in work with thight deadlines, and having great weather, so I can take some time and work on the Vette. So.....This old gal rolled up the sleeves, unloaded some Snap-Ons and got to fixen the wobbly rear suspension of the 'base' spec fitted to my C5. First order of business was to yank the wimpy anti-roll [ sway[ bars and install ZO6 bars. Next I pulled the rear shocks, geeze, theyre small!..... and installed a set of Bilstein Sports. I'll get the Bilsteins in the front next week, which will add some additional control, but the upshot is that the somewhat wobbly aspects of the rear end that have bothered me since buying the car is CURED!!! Handling is much improved. Can't wait to get the front Bilsteins in now, it will be frosting on the cake. We also ordered up some new front tires today to replace the very thinly worn G-Force KDs, .....replacing the 245-45/17s with 255-40/17s....Will still fit fine on the stock wheels and will stick just a tad more, which along with the ZO6 bars will tend to negate the tendancy to have slight understeer.
I was afraid my husband would not like the 'ride'...[He hates my A-2 VW Golf GTI which is fitted with full-on SCCA race suspension by Shine Racing Service in it and rides VERY hard] but he actually likes the improved control in the C5, and does not feel it is too harsh. I now feel that i'll be able to do ZO6 springs too and not really disturb the 'comfort' of the car in 'daily driver' and 'weekend kruze' usage. I am just LOVING my C5 more and more. Once we get the front shocks in and the new tires on, I'll review the height issues and try to drop her down a little. I think a set of those 'frame saver' rollers is in the near future too!
