Default Please help with shifter install

I am installing a B&M ripper right now.
I have it in and for some reason I cannot change gears.
I have tried installing it facing both directions(bought it used and not sure which way it is supposed to be facing) and no such luck.
I started the car, thinking maybe it was "locked" and nothing.
I traded away my stock shifter.
Can anyone help please?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Justin

when the shifter was out of the car were you able to move the shifter up and down?

also can you move the shifter? Like does it move and not shift or does it not move at all like it is stuck?

The Ripper is harder to shift (more positive in CF speak). It doesn't break by shifting. If I remember correctly, because of the rubber boot, it will only bolt in one way. Had mine apart last weekend. Make sure that the plastic cap is on the Ripper "ball" and that ball is in the linkage within the tunnel.
Hope this helps.

When the shifter is out of the car, it moves just fine.
When I took the stock shifter out of the car, the stock shifter worked fine.
It is stuck, I cannot change gears.
Thank you all for your help.

Try lifting the rear wheels and rotating them if the trans gears aren't meshing.

Yea, everything looks to be installed correctly.
I have done shifter installs before, but this one puzzles me.
A friend said maybe the PCM locked it and I need to reset it(is there any truth to this?)
I will try my best to lift the back wheels( I cannot drive it up on a ramp to get my jack under it).
I do not have my stock shifter anymore, so I am kinda stuck in a bind.

Can't I just roll the car(I think it's stuck in neutral)?

Default B&M install

I was hoping to do the same to my 99 today, but its still in the shop.

The slot on the shifter goes towards the rear. Some where in my research about this (and I can't find the thread now) there supposedly is an L shaped pin in front of the shifter that locks the neutral gate to align the shifter. If it's there, lift the pin up to unlock. I wish I was installing mine now to be of more help. Hope all goes well.

Yes, the pin is there.
I have a feeling this pin is what is causing me so much trouble.
I have it installed the way you are describing.
Tell me more about installing this L pin.
I just placed it back in it's holder and pushed it down snug to the shifter.
Thanks again for your prompt replies

OK, I went and played around with the pin.
With the pin out, it shifts just fine, but with it in, it locks in neutral.
Any advice?

That pin is supposed to be in the up position. It's function in the down position is to lock the shifter so it's immobile. This allows you to adjust the shifter linkage. The operating position for the "L" pin is UP.

Hey, thanks for the help guys.
Whenever I pull the pin out, it shifts just fine.
So I place it in it's holder and shift, well it falls in it's place and locks the shifter in whatever gear I am in.
How do I properly install this L pin?
*feels almost as dumb as he did when he bought that damn FORD* lol
I have had F-bodies all my life, then finally gave in to a Bullitt.
Well that only lasted 3 months, lol.
After full bolt ons, it was still terd slow.
So I traded it in on a Z06.

Glad to be with you guys and thanks again.
Justin

It's been 2 yrs since my original install but if I remember correctly, the pin was for the factory to keep the trans aligned while on the line. Hence the cheap rubber band. Lose the pin, you'll be fine.

If I remember correctly from the forum post that I mentioned above the pin is not necessary and can be permanently removed. If lost you can use a drill bit to lock it to adjust the shifter.
