I posted about a week ago about tradin in my 04 911 for a C6 or a Z06 and got some great insight on the Corvette community! It seems to be a tight knit group of enthusiasts that really have a passion for the marque. Coming for a simliar community in the Porsche realm, seeing this comraderie is reassuring.

Anyways, on to the good stuff. I finally decided on a Z06 for now and hopefully in a year, the c6z06's will be selling for msrp.. In the meantime, I found and test drove an 03 blk/blk Z06 with 1500 miles on it for 39,900. The thing smells like it just came out of the Vette factory, not a scratch or chip on the car. The torque in this monster made me feel like I was getting into a vw beetle when I drove my 911 home. I love the 911 to death, but 1. I need to put together some capital, and the car is the first to go, and 2. There's no replacing the grunt that a pushrod V8 can give you.

My question to you guys is this... Is there anything I should worry about as far as the milage being too low on a 2 year old car? I've heard horror stories with regards to low mile, few years old european cars having to get seals and such replaced from sitting there and drying out. Thanks in advance, and looking forward to joining the Z06 clique

P.S. sorry for the long post

As long as the 1,500 miles were put on over time and not in the fist month when new I wouldn't worry about it. My 88 verte only had 28k miles on it when I sold it last summer and it was like new with no problems at all. the miles were spread out over the years during nice weather only. Go for it.

How can I tell that? The car is at a dealership.

Ask if they will give you the previous owners name and number. I traded my 96 Vette in on my 04 and they asked if they could do that, I was happy to speak to anyone about the car.

Also run a carfax report, and ask about warranty. It may have some time left on it depending on when it was sold.

Lastly, its only two years old, I think it would have to sit outside for much more time for seals etc being an issue. My 96 was 4 years old and low miles and never leaked a drop.

Welcome to the Vette community, I love Porches as well, wouldn't it nice to have one of each so we never had to decide between the two

I think the car will be ok even if it has sat for a while. People store thier vettes all the time here and the only reported problem I have seen is the battery not holding a charge. If the battery is good my opinion is that you'll be fine.

They should give you the previous owners info. I've had a couple of people contact me over the years on cars I've trade in and the dealership never asked me if it was ok. I didn't mind at all though. In fact one of them I told the gent looking at a pickup I had traded to pass on it, or get the tranny rebuilt. I didn't owe the dealership anything and if they gave out the info I was going to be honest about it.

I don't think the low miles will be a problem as long as everything else checks out, however you could probably save another $5,000 by finding one with maybe 15,000 miles. Condition depends on the kind of care as much as the miles.

Anyway, one thing about moving from a 996 too a Z06 is that now *you* will know how they compare. I have an 01 Z06 (35,000 miles) and recently got some good seat time in an 03 996 which I thoroughly enjoyed.

There's warranty left until 12/31/05, so I will be fine for the rest of the year basically. My thought is that anything wrong that will come up, should come up between now and then. Its just the inconveinence of bringing it in. I've also heard that service at Chevy is stellar? It can't be any worse than Mercedes Benz, I'll tell ya that right now. The best service I've ever had is from Cadillac, they bought my lunch everytime I brought it in for warranty work or even an oil change.

I picked up an EB 03 Z06 a few months ago. The previous owner had put 1005 miles on it in 2.5 years. I flew from Fl. to Va. to pick it up. So far not a single problem. I put more miles on it coming home than it had when I picked it up. (1180) No regrets............
