After hunting for a used Borla system, I have finally given up and ordered a new one yesterday. It should be here next week.
After looking at the instructions, It doesnt look to hard to put it in. The hard part looks like getting the stock one out.
Can I easily get the stock one out by using a set of ramps and jacking up the rear? Do I need to cut it? I was thinking of getting the plastic rhino ramps people have talked about at sears.
How long has it taken some of you to do this?
Any tips for a newbie? Should I just bring it to an exhaust shop? and if so, how much is a reasonable price for them to do the swap?
I have only had the car for a couple of weeks and havent even made my first car payment and I have been bitten by the mod bug already
I had mine installed several years ago at a muffler shop. The guy really took his time and, if I remember correctly, only charged me about $40.00. Well worth the price, but you gotta watch where you take it.
If you do it yourself, you'll need to jack the rear up (I think yu'll need about 33 inches or so, but I may be wrong) and remove one of the sway bar bolts. If not, it makes it hard to remove the original. Hope that helps.
If you cut it out, you won't need more than the rino ramps. If you want it out whole, you have to get the back of the car way up in the air...
I cut mine out and it was easy as pie...
Took about 2 1/2 hours, but I put an X-pipe in at the same time and drank some while I was at it. You could do a cat back in an hour if you busted it out...
I say do it the right way. Dont cut the stock ones. I used a lift so it only took a max of 15 minutes. Jack it up around 34 in the back and they come off great also.
Me and my son put my Borlas on.Hardest part is jacking the rear up high enough.Once you get it up it's a pretty easy job.Just follow the instructions.I wouldn't cut up the stock pipes. The only reason to do that is you didn't get it high enoungh.Besides..you might want them later. Also if you have somone else do it,they probably won't take the time to properly adjust them.I got the four oval tip type.If you just put them on,the tips can be at weird angles. But with a little ajusting before you tighten everything up,you can get them perfect...like a C5 should be! Either way, you'll love the sound!Good luck...
