More effective: Dynamat/Frost King or Non-Runflats
What's the best first step in cutting down the noise in a C5 coupe... installing sound-proofing material like Dynamat or replacing the tires with quieter, non-runflats?

I've heard tires. But I've done the sound deadening and have EMT's ... it worked for my taste. Can't imagine what doing both would have done.
Maybe 6 of one, half a dozen of the other IMO.

My vote would be to do the interior sound proofing first.
Ton's of posts on using Dynamat and Frost King.

I didnt notice much difference after the rear frost king install.
Added the AOS tunnel plate and that made a major difference.
Next would be a nice set of tires!!!

I first bought the Frost King insulation and not have had the time to install it. I installed a new set of wheels, non-runflats and I am now debating if I should just return the Frost King.
IMHO the tire change really made a great differance.

You're only going to get a bias answer here. I spent 15 or so hours doing the Dynamat and thinks it's the best...
Someone who did the frost king and spent all their time doing it will say it is the best...
I think either one will work, it all depends on how much time and money you have, and how much effort you're willing to put into it!

Brother-in-law and myself did my 02 with reflectix took about 6 hours total, cut the noise considerably. But I'm sure the New Non-runflats, Gdyr F1 GS-D3's getting installed next weekend will finalize it all.
Good Luck in whatever you attempt.

I've done all three, here is my opinion from most effective to least.
New tires (Bridgestone S03's)
Dynamat (I used Brown Bread, cheaper)
Frost King (helped some but also made car cooler)
Good luck!

I'd pass on the Frost King mod, I started off using DynaMat ran out and finished with Frost King. While I was happy with the noise reduction I felt after handling both DynaMat and Frost King that Frost King isn't in the same league as DynaMat. So I bought some more DynaMat and went over the area I did with Forst King. I could tell the difference.
My advice, if you are going to tear your car apart and spend the time, effort and money - do it right. Buy a product specifically designed for the task.
Here's a before and after photo of my project and you can see where the DynaMat ends and the Frost King starts.
You want noise, try a Z with B&B PRT's and no insulation
DynaMat and Frost King in place
There is no comparison, buy DynaMat.

There is also a product called Hushmat that I used and didn't cut my fingers at all. Look at www.hushmat.com. Also, I removed the wheel wells and insulated the cavities with R-19 and covered it up with reflektix. It worked well for reducing the sound of the tires. I'm afraid of using non-runflats, don't ever want my car towed for a flat tire.
