I have a 00 c5 with the bose system and the factory 12 disc changer and 1 disc in dash changer, is there any way to hook up a subwoofer (nothing crazy, just one 10" or 12") without changing the deck and still have it sound good?
If not, is it worth it to change the deck out? I think the quality is really good, but I just want a bit more bass. Thanks
Not if you want it to sound good..I hook up in sterio competitions so trust me when I tell you to change the deck..You will not believe the difference in sound when changing the deck..I recommend a deck with at least 2Volt PER PRE-OUT...That will give you enough unless you want more or better..My deck is a 5Volt per pre-out with 4 pre-outs..You get what you pay for so don't get a deck with the crap colours and features..Go for QUALITY and PERFORMANCE, just like your car.
Honestly I agree with Need 4 Speed, but you said you already like the way it sounds, just that you want more bass. You don't need to change the deck out for more bass IMHO.
The LL converter you can pick up a local audio shop, should be between 10 and 20 bucks. We sold our basic one for 15.99 and our adjustable one for 29.99. I say we like i still work there, I quit Saturday!!

Yes but with more bass you will need to bring up the overall sound..Factory isn't going to compensate for the bass inside the cabin, especially when you start turning it up..Also you will need a double pre-out for some fader control so you can adjust the bass to sound ratio..A 4 channel amp will be your best bet for a basic system..
I think I am going to try the low line and see how it works. I actually have a pretty nice panasonic deck, but I have noticed that the oem deck is slightly larger and I think it would look kinda funny. I am also only planning to install a 250watt alpine 10" that I already have so I dont think its worth it to go all out for something so small. If I was gonna due 2 12", then I would definately change the deck.
anyways, thanks so much for all the help guys. If anyone knows where I can get a diagram for this install, that would be great. thanks
thats a good choice, i installed a line level converter and put in a DVC 10" sub, and it rocks! I just wanted a little more bass to my music without spending tons of $$ on changing everything out.
Several people on this forum have heard my system as it is now and they think it sounds great
overall im very satisfied with the setup
