Default 2001 Z06 vs Later Models

what makes the 20hp difference betweent the 2001 Z's and the later models. i looked up what i could about the differences and it seems to me the major difference was the air box...i know the air box doesn't make 20hp difference, so what else is there

I had the same questions and if memory serves there are 3.

- The MAF does not have the screen on 02 and up.

- The cam is slightly bigger.

- The intake manifold was reworked for 02 and up.

I think that was it.

I believe the 02-04 heads flow more as well.

Some of the info above is not correct. Here are the differences:

1. LS6 engine (Z06 model) receives 20 horsepower increase, to 405 hp, and receives 15 foot pounds more torque for a total of 400 lbs. ft. of torque - This was done through a few changes, mostly the Cam though
2. Pre-cat deletion
3. Revised rear shock valving
4. Aluminum front and rear stabilizer bar links
5. Z06 wheels are now cast aluminum, not forged aluminum
6. Head-Up Display (HUD) now standard
7. Cam/Valve/Spring change - Valves were sodium filled to reduce weight
8. Electron Blue exterior color.
9. Speedway white was discontinued

MAF did not change
Intake is the same on all LS6 engines
Heads on LS6 engines are all the same sans the valve's - flow is the same - 243 casting for the LS6 all years

I am pretty sure the air box changed a little bit. I was reading some where it was opened up about 6 inches and they had some pictures as well. Here is a link: http://www.c5registry.com/2k2z06/page3.htm

They did change the Air box and the other items as mentioned above. The air box looks like the same thing from on top but underneath the opening was made bigger. If you were going to mod a 01 Z it really wouldn't make a difference if 01 - 04 other than suspension since you would be changing most of the above items if not all. Been there and done that.

Good info for me cause it looks like the previous owner of my car switched the MAF to the 2002 design. Thanks

What is the exact difference then? Or is it just the deletion of the screen?

Am I correct in recalling that the fuel system was changed in mid -03 as a result of C6 engine work???
