My father was the owner of a 2001 pewter, auto, fully loaded 'Vette coupe. Recently, he lost his battle with cancer. Before he died, he asked me if I wanted his 'Vette. I've always been a Camaro man, but told him that I would be honored. He, and my brother-in-law were happy C5 owners and always spoke highly of them. After my father died, my Mother decided she wanted to sell the car. She owes much less than blue book on the car, but wants to make a profit. I let her know that if she wanted to keep it in good running condition, I'd drive it a few days a week (as I wasn't necesarilly interested in paying the kind of money she wants for the car). I drove it home, and my life changed.
I absolutely love this car, and other than the automatic transmission, I wouldn't change a thing. The looks I get, the cheers from kids, the glares from Mustang owners, hair blowing with the top off... It's awesome. Also, I wasn't aware of the commeraderie that exists between Corvette owners. Every single 'Vette owner I've passed waves at me from C1 to C6 and everything in between. There's a special bond that I've never experienced before.
Needless to say, I'm working with my Mother to buy my Dad's C5. I understand now why he wanted me to have the car. I'm hopeful that she and I can work out a deal and my Dad's last dream can come true.
You father sounds like a great guy. I'm glad you got to experience this wonderful automobile, and even more so, I'm glad of the sentimental value it has for the obvious reasons.
This is a great place for advice, activities, and for general conversation with great people. It's sometimes down, most of the time up, and can be controversial in here, but I feel like this is family, and I'm sure I share this sentiment with many here.
Welcome to the Forum and I hope you and your mom can work out a good deal!

Sorry to hear about your Dad I wonder if he was a member of this Forum? You are right, there is a special bond among Vette owners like no other. Hope the deal works out for you and you get to keep the car Welcome to the Forum
You will want the car because it was your fathers'.
You will love the car 'cause it's a vette. Welcome to the vette family.
This is the greatest forum around.

If your mother doesn't know about your father's desire for you to have the vette, I would tell her about this conversation. Hope you can work this out.

This is a great story. Losing your father is always tough but he was blessed with the insight to pass on to you something he took great pride in and thought you might enjoy as well -- his Vette.
Welcome!! Enjoy!! Your Dad will be smiling down on you.
Sorry to hear about your dad. Like him I hope that when I pass on the corvettes I have will stay in my family.
Although a part of your immediate family has left you, hopefully you will find as time goes on there is also a special bond between those of us you own vetts.
Good luck with working out a solution with your Mom.
Sorry for the loss of your dad. Good luck with the purchase of his Vette. As you now see, you won't be sorry. We are one big (sometimes) happy family Knowing that it was your Dad's car will put an even bigger smile on your face when you drive it. Welcome to the forum, and hopefully the family.
