Steering recall
I got my first vette six months ago. Now, I’m trying to learn all the in’s and out’s of the car. It’s a 99, 6spd, coup and I just receive a recall notice in the mail yesterday. It’s for the column lock recall. I’ve seen a lot of threads on the column lock issue, but I’m not clear about the best solution. Should I take the car in and have the dealer fix it, or do something else. If something else, what would that be? Thanks for your help and this is a great site for needed information. It’s another added value when you own a vette and like to do your own work!

I would have the recall done. Since you have an m6, I think all they do is flash the computer. Mine is an A4 and they removed the lock and replace a harness of some type. The m6 even after the recall in some cases can still give you the lock code. Maybe someone with the m6 will chime in.

I had the recall done on mine, but I also spent the extra cash for the column lock bypass. No problems with the column locking up.
