Default Where does everyone mount radar detectors?

Question for all you veterans. Just bought a new Z06 and wondering where everyone mounts their radar detectors and how they wire them to make the look very clean? Narrowed my search to the Escort 8500 x50 with blue display, but want it to look good in the car. Any help??

However you do it I would recommend mounting it so you can remove it when needed. Two reasons for this, one in some states they are illegal, and two it is the number one stolen accessory in automobiles. I have had my window smashed in with a rock so some knucklehead could reach in and steal the thing. I went the easy route, I just stuck it on the windshield and ran the cord down and plugged in.

Mounted detector (either V1 or Passport 8500x50) to bottom of rear view mirror with bracket from Great Lakes Trophy (about $30). Hardwired directly to auto dimming mirror with "short wire" from CF member Teamspeed ($12.95). Can easily unplug wire and slip the detector out of the bracket any time you want. Clean and slick.

V1 mounted to the right of the mirror and up in the tint area. Can't see from the outside and hardwired in. Nothing visible and pretty easy to install.

My V1 is mounted just to the left of the mirror, about the same level. The tint line is right at the top edge of the V1, so the V1 is "peeking" under the tint. I ran the hardwire behind the mirror, down the top channel (I have a coupe), behind the pilar and down to the fusebox where I used one of the switched wires from the bundle. It was very easy to do, except that I have somewhat broad shoulders so the wiring down below was difficult for me.

I walked a different path.

Put mine right below the headliner next to the driver's A pillar. Ran the wire in A-pillar wire channel.

The detector is virtually invisible to all but the driver. Flipping down the sun visor makes it even less visible.

Personally, I prefer this spot to the rear view mirror location that most others opt for.

V1 mounted to the left of the rearview. Just at the tint line and hardwired into the mirror.

This is the setup have. I can't imagine a better one out there.

You may want to enlarge your search - I have K40, both are built in (with active lights showing up in the dash/instrument panel).

IMHO, it is the only way to have a radar/laser dector installed.

I don't understand why you guys do that. I've got that bracket still in the box. Never have used it. My V1's standard little suction cups sticks it way up top, just under the sun visor. It's so tight you can't even see it when you're standing behind the car.

I've wired mine directly off the rear view mirror. I just wrap the little cord around the back of the mirror and stick my V1 in the glove compartment. Presto! No radar detector.
