When I got to work this morning, I noticed a nail in my left rear tire. It's about an inch in from the sidewall ... halfway to the first groove on the Goodyear ET.
I'd thought about getting non-runflats when I replace my tires, but now I'm not so sure.
I don't appear to be leaking air ... is there any problem with just leaving it like it is, with the nail in place?
Probably not a good idea...I've had an allen wrench and a screw in my right back runflat. Fortunately, neither penetrated the tire I discovered as I pulled both out with a pair of plyers!! These tires seem to attract all nails, screws, etc!!
No problem leaving it there until it decides to exit ... then there's no pressure and you'll have to get it fixed right then regardless of your other plans.
I'd get it fixed or replaced soon.
That's nothing, I had a huge freakin bolt in my right rear run flat and no problems at all, no air leaks for 3 months, then I went ahead and replaced them with non runflats...
There's a reason for the tirepressure sensers if you ask me.
I'd take it out, and plug it. The "tap-tap-tap" sound of it on the road annoys me. And I wouldn't want to risk a little piece of metal flying into my car, or into someone else's car.
Our tires are nail and screw street sweepers casue they are so wide and soft. On my run flats I had 3 repairs, on my first set of non run flats I had 3 in the same rear tire and had to order a new set of rears and I have had 2 already in those. Road hazard has been good to me on this car.
BTW, my left rear is at Goodyear right now getting repaired from a nail hole. It's going to cost me $44. that's more than I paid for one of my tires on my DD but I hear that is a good price compared to what others have paid. GY is the only place around that will do it.
Get a plug kit and fix it yourself. That's what I had to do because nobody wanted to work on run-flats in my area. I got another 20k out of it before getting non-runflats. GY D3's they are so quiet it's like buying a new car. Now I have a small compressor and a plug kit in the trunk. Just like the Z06 has. :seeay
I don't know if its the tire compound, the rock hard nature of the runflats or the tread pattern on these tires but they seem to attract nails like crazy!! I've been driving for 14 years and never had a flat on any of my cars. In 3 years of vette ownership, I've gotten 2 nails/bolts in my runflats. Had them both patched and still running fine today.

Two months and already I got a nail in the RR last week. Had it patched from the inside at Tire Kingdom and they charged me $45.00.
Discount tire will fix the run flats and i even read somewhere once that it doesn't matter if it is close to the sidewall, it can still be repared!! I was thinking about non-runflat but I am just going to go with a different brand or an upgraded Goodyear Run Flat if there is one when the time comes!
