Hello everyone!
I have been here before but did not own a C5, but now (very unfornutely) inherited my father's 99 convertible. I have never been sadder in my life but I need to learn everything about taking care of his car to honor him and carry on his tradition of show cars. It was his pride and joy and won many shows he entered. We built about a dozen antique and muscle cars in the last 30 years but this was what he wanted his whole life. I cracked the bottom part of the bumper cover when I wiped out in the snow on the day of his funeral (can you say bald F1s and wet roads?). Where should I get a replacement? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Paul

Paul, I'm very sorry to hear of your fathers passing. By your brief description he sounds like he was my kind of guy.
Gene at Karshop often has bumpers. I'd suggest that you look in the C5 parts for sale section. You might luck out and find one that is already the right color.
Can you explain that screenname?
Greetings Paul and welcome to the forum I'm very sorry about your fathers passing. Just take pride in the fact that you have such a great connection to his passing. It will provide you with more enjoyment from your Corvette. You've come to the right place to learn everything you need to know. Make sure you check out some of the specialized sections on the forum for car care and maintenance. Feel free to ask away, there are no stupid questions here and someone will usually have an answer for you in just a few minutes. The search function doesnt' always so don't let that frustrate you. Do try and use it thought. Many of the most common topics can be answered with a search. Good luck with your new passion.
welcome.....hold onto the vette until your head clears.lost my father not to long ago. you will understand the connection with the car much better as time goes by.
As a semi-old fart, when I go, nothing would make me feel better than looking down (or maybe up, in my case) at my son finding the pride and enjoyment of owning a Corvette by keeping mine immaculate.
I can't imagine what your loss is like Paul. I'm fortunate that my dad is still around.
But you can honor his memory by taking care of his baby. You've lost someone who can never be replaced but you've gained a whole bunch of brothers who will help you in your task and we'll do all we can to make it easier.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my father when I was 13 - 38 years ago, and there is never a day that passes that I don't think about him.
What color is the car? I have a buddy who is dismantling an '04 Arctic White convertible. The front bumper skin is most likely spoken for, but there might be other parts that you need. If you PM me - I might be able to help.
I also agree with the others that Gene's KarShop is a good source for parts. The link is at the bottom of the column of vendors along the left hand side of this page.
Sorry you joined us under these circumstances.
I believe I've read some information from you in the recent past.
I hope you enjoy the car and grand memories of you and your father for many years to come.
You guys are the best! My dad surfed here for years, although I dont remember his screen name. He taught me so much about cars and everything else I know. I remember being five or six and he had me in the engine compartment of his Model A doing something or other.
The Car in question is a red C5, convertible, dual ram air, HPP3, Corsa cat-back, engine completely chromed and covered in SS. I remember so many people just gawking at the engine at shows and he just gleamed when they commented on it. I will now gleam for him.
Kinda relate to you. My father was killed 5 years ago on his Harley. Always had a Harley or Vette in the garage. Decided I'd get one to keep his memory going. Just wish he could ride with me!
Sorry about your Dad. Being 60ish with a 24 year old son, I know he would be delighted that you care enought to ask for help with his pride and joy! You and your Dad will enjoy his car becoming your car --- and will smile thinking about him every time you turn that key. We'll help, but your Dad had it all figured out when that car became yours.
