check it out and see if it wiggles to the front and back at all, Min just buckled completely and threw the belt off of it, about 2 months ago... just do it yourself, its a 2 minute job... get the GM part from the Chevy dealer, 70 bux.. and then throw it on in less than 2 minutes...
When I took mine off, I could see the wear on the thing, rattling back and forth caused a nasty gash...
PS my 97 is at 39k... I think it came off at 38k, so you should probably look into replacing it before something bad happens and it comes off when your in the middle of podunk AK

As stated, do both belts at the same time - It will save you in the long run.
