well,i bought my 01 6spd.last june with 12000 miles on it.now i have 19600 on it,and i've put oil in it between oil changes 2 or 3 times.only half a quart or less.i couldn't tell by looking at it when i bought it without getting into the # 2 ring,as i've read on here, but you should expect some oil consumption with that motor, and if it doesn't happen, that's a good thing!if the car is nice and in your budget and it's what you want,go get it!!!get an extended warranty too if you're buying from a dealer because there may be a seat track issue too!enjoy.
beats the hell out of me!!! but i read on here about the # 2 ring not being seated right, and then when the rev's get up there, the vibration moves seals or something, thus the consumption.
If your looking at a 2001 car for sale.. how do you know if it would possibly have the oil consumption problem?
Information please! If its an A4, it likely doesn't have an oil problem because the M6 cars were more likely to have it. Usually caused by higher RPMs with little load on the engine, such as cruising in a lower gear to hear a custom exhaust. I have read that all 2001s are prone to the problem and the very first to be built in 2002. Supposedly fixed after that. It was a ring problem.

If the original owner would tell you, that is one way. Other than that, you may just have to drive the car long enough to see if it uses oil. Kind of hard to do when the car is not yours though.
well,my gmpp ran out at the end of april so i'm out anyway!although,i don't think i trust any chevy dealer around here with that kind of job.i'd need to go at least 50 miles for the work!took these guys almost a week to get my new glass top on right!i'm stuck in hell when it comes to dealers who know what's going on with vette's!my penance for a previous life thing or something!!
Don't look at an 01, it will lessen your chances at an oil burner.. I bought used and refused to even conisder an 01 based on the chance it might burn oil....I bought a 99....There's so many C5's out there so keep looking..
Not every single 01 has an oil consumption problem. I have an 01 and do not have this problem. I have had other vehicles that have consumed oil on occasion, it's normal. And yes I know it is a documented problem with some 01 C5's but lets not make a blanket statement here.
I am not trying to brush this off, I would be concerned too...but If the car is still under warranty, then it will be covered, no problem. Good luck
