Was on my yesterday and stopped at a light. All of a sudden, steam/smoke starts opuring out from under the hood. I immediately shut it off and put on the flashers. When I opened the hood I could see that there was a liquid all over the front of the engine. It smelled like coolant but I wasn't sure. Very luckily I was one block from a Chevy dealer. I determined that it wsa safe to drive the block and preceeded to the dealer. The car stopped running several times and was difficlut to start. It took about 10 minutes to go the one block to the dealer.
I pulled up to the Service doors. They heard me come in. (headers/Pace Car) and opened the garage doors. I popped the hood and discovered that I had lost one of the throttle body bolts and was leaking coolant. What a relief. I had visions of much worse. The parts department told me the good news that another dealer 30 miles away had the right shouldered screw. It might have well been on the moon durung DC rush hour. A mechanic took pity on me a said just use a washer and went and got the bolt and washer. Five minutes later I was back on the road. When I asked if there was a service ticket he said "don't worry" and I gave him $20 for his time.
Today I'll spend cleaning up the engine bay and retightening everything we touched when we did the header and manifold install 4 weeks ago.
Dealers get beat up pretty badly here - sometimes rightfully - I just thought I'd share a positive experience. I can't even remember the name of the dealer but they are the Chevy dealer in Fairfax, VA.
