Default Battery Tender Connection?

Is it safe to connect the Battery Tender to battery for charging while the battery is still connected to the car?

No problem.

To eliminate possiblity of spark, best to attach leads before plugging in Tender.

Do you have the instructions with the unit? Mine said to (1) put the red clamp to the + terminal, (2) the black clamp to a ground, (3) then plug it in. Perfectly safe. Mine stays hooked up that way Monday through Friday - never a problem.

Fasten the other electrical connectors to the battery bolts, this way you just plug the BT into the plug every winter. Clamps might fall off during a long winter. During the driving season, just push the plug beside the Fuse/relay center.

I use a modified lighter plug for my car tender. Quick and easy to connect and disconnect.

Yes, but I want to be sure that you don't expect it to charge the battery it is for maintaining a charge more than charging. If your battery is low then use a charger...

I disagree. The instructions are titled "Battery Tender Plus Battery Chargers". The instructions specifically discuss operating in 3 primary charges modes of bulk mode (full charge power 0% to 75% charged), the absorption mode (75% to 100% charged), or the storage/float maintenance mode (100% to 103%).

Yes, if you have the Battery Tender Plus - if you have a generic Float Charger type of battery tender though...

I have a "Battery Tender Plus" for my 99' coupe. I tried to install the ring terminals, but they were too small to slip over the battery lug bolts. I call the manufacturer, and they said it was ok to cut off the factory rings and install larger ones so that I could use the ring terminal connection as opposed to the clamp connectors. This has worked well for me. The car stays on the tender for weeks at a time and I have not seen any problems.
