Default battery mat help

well, it's always something. I had read about so many horror stories on the battery leaking that I got one of those mats from mid-america. Went to put it on, removed the battery, etc. Then, my 13mm socket drops down, not sure where it went, but I'm hoping it'll turn up if I remove the fender liner (any one else had this problem?) But now, I can't get the battery tie down to grab. Does the may make it to thick? Suggestions? Thanks.

No, no. Don't go yanking on fenders.

There are four bolts holding down the battery tray and they are easy to get to. Look in the center of the tray and there's a hole there with four sides, one bolt on each side. Take them off and you can remove the tray. Then get yourself one of those little magnets on the end of an expanding rod (Home Depot for about $5) and poke around until it grabs the socket. It's down there and you can pull it out (don't ask me how I know).

BTW, while you're at Home Depot, see about getting yourself a longer bolt for the hold down.

I've had this happen before too - just take off the battery tray and you can see all the way to the bottom of the fender. Should be able to spot your missing tool.

That story was mine 6 months ago! Bought the mat....took the battery out, mat in, bolt too short....dropped the socket.. ....pulled the battery out....pulled the tray out and eventually retrieved the socket....wasted hour!!

Not smart enough to buy a longer bolt....guess I still have the mat somewhere....another chance to drop the socket!! Just what I need....alittle help from my friends!!

thanks all for comments, at 2:00 a.m. in the morning, when I sent post, just couldn't think straight, next day, went out there, and tilted the batter back towards the passenger seat, then I started the tie down, then i rocked the batter towards the front, got it under the tie down, and it all came together. Wasted an hour the night before, and knocked it out in 1 minute the next day. Always happens when you're fresh.
Then, I had just bought some "mods", and had the screen kit, and as noted, (and as I expected) as soon as I took off the fender linder, there the 13mm socket was, so, recoverd that, put the cove's in, etc., and am good to go, got the front's, brakes, cove's, etc.
THANKS
