It maybe hard for the laser to lock on your black C5, but eventually it will clock the speed, THAT can be guaranteed near 100%. The question is, how many tries and at what distance that the laser can finally clock your speed.

On my old car, I had full bra and black out up front w/o front license plate. The car is quite "curvaceous" and laser could always clock its speed after 2-3 tries and yes, this was verified by V1 and yes, I was the most front car on a 3-lane road By the end of the first warning I have slowed down enough.

But, no, I wouldn't believe that a black C5 with headlights down and no front license plate cannot be clocked by laser. I dunno what it takes in order to achieve complete stealthiness other than using a jammer. Maybe alot of amount of money

I think it is BS, MythBusters did a lot of tests with various ways that are reported to work to defeat radar or laser, and they all failed, some even increased the detection. I think even if you had a F-117A parked 100 yards away the laser would pick it up. Black might help more than white, but it is still going to be picked up.

One thing we all must remember.......radar/lasar detectors may go off (
give you a warning) but that doesn't indicate what is being reflected back to the LEO. A thousand radars/lasars may be hitting you at one time, driving your detector crazy, but if your not reflecting a good signal back to the gun, they don't know you're there.

I should have kept the Black Vette... Red looks like it's speeding, even when it's parked...

Laser is only good for short range line of sight. My local LEO friends say 300 to 500 yards is about the average distantance that they will hit people with laser. As long as you're paying attention while you're driving in most cases you can spot LEO before you get nailed with the laser. They know black cars are harder to hit so they usually try harder for you guys.

I'm not sure I would want to try out that theory.

I bought my triple black vert in Dallas, while driving back to Cali, I got stopped in Texas and guess what, he dinged me with a radar gun. No ticket was given (thank GOD), Guys, if this was true, don't you think it would have been proved time and time again already......

I was talking to my LEO friends about this, commenting on the difficulty of the black, no plates etc...and he remarked that around my town the LEOs try to target the actual driver behind the glass...aim for the chest. Suprised me he said that with lasers/eyes not being a good combo, but he says thats not really a problem; driver offers a bigger flatter target.

They're talking LASER, not radar. Radar doesn't care what color you are.

agreed, I saw that episode too and I think black cars pick up just fine...that would explain the ticket I got last week anyway

I have researched this a lot because I am fighting a LIDAR ticket right now (with my black corvette, no front number plate). He said I was doing 84 in a 65 zone and showed me the gun. Distance was 1080 feet. My HUD said I was doing arount 75mph. Here are the facts:

Black cars are harder to detect as they do not reflect as much radiation
No front number plate reduces detection distance
New Jersey Court ruled human error in sighting more than 1000 feet

Default Rader

Ladies and Gents, regular radar is or was operated under the dopler system. radar beam goes out hits the object and the speed of the returned beam is recorded in mph in the receiver or readout. Can't remember laser operation. A larger vehicle will be picked up before a smaller vehicle. On a flat surface, no obsticles, a beam on radar can pick up a vehicle at least, if not more, a mile away. so if you are all alone doing 90, and asumming the officer knows its you, forget your rader detector, its to late. Good luck out there. Dolen

Have a friend who's LEO and I had this discussion with him about my previous C5, a black '99 coupe with no front plate. He showed me an outtake of the manual that came with their dept's new lasers. It stated dark colored cars, very aerodynamic cars, or cars with no flat or reflective surface such as a license plate, are very difficult to track, especially at longer distances. I don't worry much though, 'cause I would NEVER exceed the posted speed limit!

In the episode of Mythbusters that I saw, they weren't using laser.
