A few days ago, I found a nail in my left rear tire (EMTs). It was about halfway to the first groove, which would put it just over an inch from the edge ... very close to the sidewall, in other words.
I took it to a local tire store, and not wanting to buy new tires right now (I'll need a new set very soon) because of a house under construction on my street with the attendant junk in the road, including nails apparently. I wanted to limp by on this one until construction is finished. They agreed, and installed a plug/patch which including breaking the tire down, patching, and re-balancing. They charged $25, which I thought was quite reasonable considering the stiff runflat, sensor, etc. They were very careful with no wheel scratches.
Man, these tire places are beyond terrified of our runflats. When I was shopping around to get my new wheels mounted up I called a few local shops. One ( A Goodyear dealer) told me they needed a special machine and that they couldn't do it. The next one without a specail machine quoted me a minimum of $75 per wheel and said that could go up dependant upon the wheels and the difficulty. My trusty shop (a little out of my way) did the whole job for $84, when they realized they scratched one of my new wheels they just bought me a new one.
