For what ever reason, every once and a while when I turn off my AH/TC it doesn't disengage(even though it says its off) but when you try to do a burnout the car just kind of studders. Usually if I just turn it back on, then back off, it works
My 99 with AH does this as well, I'm pretty sure it's the A4 trans abuse mode not TC that stutters the engine and reduces output. I need to disbale the abuse mode and see if it changes the behavior. Jeff
After having LS1 edit done and a full exhaust installed on my 99 A4 I can now turn off my traction control and bounce off the rev limiter through 1st and 2nd and continue in 3rd boiling the rear hides if I have enough space since the back end is really trying to come out by then. I do not have competion mode but my owners manual does tell me how to engage it if I were to have that option. I believe it is called torque management on the A4 so you don't blow up the tranny.
That's odd, all 2001 and later C5's have AH as standard equipment. Jeff
Then maybe I have it just not sure. Only had the car for a few months and am still trying to figure everything out. I know I have the switch on my center console that has TC so how do I know if I have AH?
Again, IF IT SAYS" ACTIVE HANDELING" ON YOUR CENTER CONSOLE BUTTON, Then you have active handeling. If it does not say "active handeling" then you do not have it and your car is ONLY equipped with Traction control.

i think he wants you guys to listen to what he is saying!!!
com'n boys..its that easy!!!! either u have it or not!!! LOL
My '98 has the T/C button, and after reading this I tried what you said with no results. I'm not sure if '98's just didn't have Comp. Mode or not?
It's not the traction control, it's the active handling control. It started being standard about halfway through the 1998 model run. My 98 doesn't have it either.
I just put the car in third. It still takes off in first. Then I powerbrake until the wheels break loose then I give it about half throttle to do a burn out. Someone chime in though I am confused. If you put the car in second doesn't it still start in first. It just won't shift to third.
I have a 2000 A4 and found out that not all vettes have Competitive Mode. Mine did not. Correct me if I'm wrong, some 2000 have it and all after have it.
Every car I have seen, has it. Plus, listed as a std. feature in the owner's manual.

If you put the A4 in 2ND it will start in 2ND, not first.

Ok I just checked and it does say Active handeling on the console right under the button, my mistake I thought that was TC.
Anyway, so given the fact that I have an 02, A4 with TC & AH back to my original question. How do I smok'em?

My 98 does not have Competitive Mode either its just on or off, I am not sure if that was part of the system in 98. It either came towards the end of 98 or after that? Someone on here will know.
