Default C5 Problems you have encountered?

I'm thinking of getting a C5, as my 79 got killed with lemon size hail.

I know nothing about them. Are there any years to avoid? I would like a convertible. I know enough not to weant a tricked out one. Thanks

The C5 is a great car, and you will have many years of enjoyment with it. You'll find there's a vast difference in the C5 compared to the C3, handling, braking, acceleration, ride etc.

As far as problems - check this thread at the top of this page, in it you'll find the good the bad and the ugly!

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...7&forum_id=103

Best of luck in your search! When you narrow it down to a specific car, you might consider sending a PM to CF Member Sponge Vette and ask him to run a service and origination history through GM on your VIN. He's done it for hundreds of others it seems. No surprises that way!

My '04 was bought new in July and I have 14K miles on it already. My main complaint is that that I don't have time to drive it enough.

Ive asked the same question and basically what it all came down to.. all of em are great but 00-01' are known for using some oil above 4k rpm. 01's and up are the ones with the somewhat more mods then older so if you can afford go 01' and up.

(just what I heard from around here) don't take my word search up. I did=)

I have a 98 with 30K on it...in which 16K has been put on in the last year. The only issues Ive had with it are tire sensors and air conditioner vacuum hose leak.

I got my first Vette (2000) in September last year. I'm going to have to get a second job to support my mods.

C5 is an awesome car. I tried to get a Vette a few times, but it never worked out. I would still like to have a C3 (1981 specifically) but a very glad I got the C5.

Best of luck in your quest.

Is the '00 oil consumption for mid year cars or all of them? The one I am buying was manufactured in mid February. I am trying to pick it up on Saturday if I can get the details worked out. I guess I will find out.

Problems encountered? I've got a whole lot of 'em:

#1 Can't stay away from this forum for very long
#2 Can't come up with more creative answers when people compliment me on Red Racer
#3 Can't keep that silly grin off my face when the roof's off on a nice day (like today)
#4 Can't stop staring at it out my window at work whenever I have a free moment
#5 Can't help wanting to smoke the "challengers" who want to race me, especially the Asian import crowd
#6 Can't help taking the long way home on some beautiful curvy roads on nice days (like today)
#7 Can't say "no" to my grandson when he wants to go for a ride in it
#8 Can't decide which rear license plate frame to use: the body colored one or the chrome one
#9 Can't seem to be able to detail it in anything less than 2 1/2 hours
#10 Can't wait until morning comes so I can get in it and drive it

Good luck with yours!

Give me the vin and I can run a GM service history for you if youd like.

My 2000 has had the following, sticking clutch pedal, leaking diff cover, pealing stripe on clear targa top, broken headlight gears and a window modual gone bad, all of which iv fixed on my own. The nice thing about these cars is there still fairly easy to work on compared to other sports cars.

No real years to avoid. Here are the common problems I know about:

Column Lock (can be solved by installing a column lock bypass)
Rear differential leaks
Oil consumption (mainly confined to the '01s)

But, obviously not all cars experience these.

The main problem that I have experienced is avoiding mod fever - just can't leave the car stock.

I have an odd problem with my Vert - Everytime I want to take it somewhere, it takes at least twice as long to arrive at final destination, I just can't seem to make it go straight to somewhere without cruising around for a while first. Anyone else notice this strange phenomina?

Other than that - Mine is trouble free
