I got quotes from 3 places. The best looks like $465 total but it is NOT for a HUD. For the windshield designed for the HUD the cost is $840. Dealer wanted $1360!
I've also heard that the Z06 windshield is lighter. So are there 2 or 3 types of windshields? Does anyone know?
Is there that much difference if I choose the windshield NOT designed for the HUD? Has anyone done this? Can you still see the HUD? What problems or lack of problems did you have?
Input would be greatly appreciated as it may save me a couple hundred bucks.
The HUD shows up just fine on a non-hud windshield. As for the weight, I do remember reading something about a lighter weight glass being used in the Z06 but I can't say for sure. You can definatly save some money by installing non hud glass though. Make sure the bead is done right, my glass leaks at the top of the drivers side. Only way to fix it (I'm told) is to rebead the glass and that requires removal... they say removing the glass typically breaks it too.

If you think that's bad, try calling the dealer and asking for a quote on the REAR glass.
Yes, that little piece of glass in the rear cost more than $3000.00!
I recently had my Z06 windshield replaced. Tried to have a nasty rock chip fixed and it ran out on them. Had a nice 2ft crack for a couple of days. I called the dealer about it and they told me to contact a local glass dealer that they would have ended up calling anyway. Apparently the dealer does not do any of the windshield or glass replacements (at least at the one near me).
Anyway, called up the glass folks and asked them all kinds of questions about making sure I got the correct OEM glass with the factory tint, etc. They told me not to worry b/c only one company make the glass for the Corvette, but it can be sold under two different names so it would have to be a major f$%kup on their part to get the wrong one.
I went through my insurance company to have it repaired. $100 deductable and I was done. They came right out to the office and fixed it. Looks fantastic and you cannot tell it was ever replaced.
Don't go to one of those scabs that eats your deductible,or you'll be sorry. My buddy's a glass man, a good one and he always says to steer clear of those outfits. And also your HUD won't be as clear with a non hud windshield. The cheap outfits will scratch your car or you will get a leak
due to improper prep.also insurance co.'s demand about 70-75% discount off list anyway, don't worry about list price just get it done right
by a good shop..
Did you have it replaced? That $$ just seems WAY out of line!
I didn't, but when Z06ufgrad2002 had his replaced, I called around because I couldn't believe the price.
That's what got me concerned about replacing stuff if I were to damage it racing on a track somewhere.... I can't imagine the replacement cost of the NEW Z06's carbon fiber panels, etc....

Thanks for the tip. You saved me $325! Got my windshield replaced for $515 out the door with non-HUD glass. HUD display looks fine. This shop wanted another $325 for the HUD glass ($840 total). Local dealer wanted $1300+ for HUD glass installed.
