Possible new C5 owner - what do look for?
Hello group!
I currently own a 2000S4 but have been in love with C5 vettes since the day I rented a convertible when they were first released :-)
I'm going to check out 2 silver 2000 6Speed Convertables tomorrow and wanted some input on what to look for. The one has about 60k miles on it - not sure of the other as its a lease return due back tomrorow.
I've heard about leaks from the roof but haven't heard of much else to worry about. Any input would be appreciated!!!

I've had my 2001 silver 6MN convertible for about a year now and in that time I've not had any leaks in the top.
Gotta love our wet BC winters ....
I would suggest that if you are buying from a dealership that you consider an extended warranty. I got a 3 year bumper to bumper with mine for about $1200 bucks and in the first year I've managed to get my money's worth and more from it.
My only recurring issue has been a leaking oil seal on the rear diff. I've also had a nylon headlight gear go bad. Fixed that myself however with info from this forum.

Look to see if all recalls have been done, check for leaking rear differential seals, check the battery area for any leaking, and just generally have a competent mechanic check the car over. Get a service history if you can. A CarFax would help too.

When you look for a leaky battery, if possible, have someone pull the battery and inspect the area underneath for any signs of acid damage.
I have a 99 vert, and have only been caught in hard rain once - my roof leaks under those conditions.
Look under the car to make sure the rocker panels are not cracked from improper lifting.
Make sure the AC display is nice and bright.
