Got the dreaded......
Column Lock Recall notice......
Nice of GM to finally catch up with my car after 6 years and 110,000 miles....
So.....what do I do? I don't think I need it, nor do I want it after reading some of the horror stories here.
And.....my car is an MN6 and I can turn the wheels when the key is out of the vehicle......so I THINK an aftermarket bypass was probably installed by the original owner (the ONLY other owner).
Do I ignore it? Contact the dealer and/GM and decline it? Go ahead and take it in???
DO NOTHING....except make sure you have a CLB installed. But it was nice of GM to send out a recall notice after all these years and thousands of complaints....and the disappointment is that they still didn't get it right.

Totally up to you. I already had the CLB installed when my recall notice arrived. But I decided to go ahead and get the recall done. The dealership did a great job and after I got back home, I reinstalled the CLB for extra assurance.
It sounds like you already have the CLB installed. I wouldn't worry about it. I've received many such notices; I installed the CLB in my '99 coupe when I bought it new, and never looked back.
Sponge Vette did a history for me and I put it below, there is a line under claims that says:
"R.O Date R.O Number Type Labor Operation Odometer Reading
08/28/2004 400764 # V1145 - 04006 - PERFORM REPROGRAM AND FUNCTIONAL TEST - MANUALS ON 16681 miles"
Is this the recall do you think?
Thanks,
Mike

Got the same notice two days ago. I bought my 04 last July. I put a CLB in in the fall so I'm going to ignore it. I do remeber though seeing a member or two successfully getting reimbursed for their CLBs by GM. The notice reminded me that I never tried.
In the last 2 months or so, I've received 7 CL notices from GM. Last week, I received 2 e-mails - 1 for the CL and another for a seat belt issue. Not doing the the 1st one since I've already installed a bypass, but I'm going to be checking with them about the other one.
Several years back, I have bought my daughter a new 1995 Cavalier. Some time later, (after the warranty had expired) the car blew a head gasket(warped heads also). It cost me around $1400 (If my poor memory serves me) to repair the thing at the Dealer. About year later, I recieved a recall notice that seemed to be related to the heads. I had kept all of my receipts. I gathered the recall and the reciepts and drove the little car to the dealer. I was very nice to the Service manager, but I showed him the documentation and said "You know, this sound like what caused my car break." He looked at it and agreed, but he said it would be up to the General. About 10 days later, we received a refund for the full amount from GM. If anyone has spent money to correct this problem and has documentation, it might be worth the trouble to check it out with the dealer.
