Have a 2003 vert and am looking for advice on a CB radio and antenna for it. For those of you that have a unit installed what unit and antenna would you suggest and how good is the range. Thanks in advance.

You need a no ground plana antenna such as http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/e30-ngp.htm
Someone around here also sells a license plate mount for the rear. Sorry, I don't have a link.
Many people use CB's to avoid traffic jams, and learn about road hazards that are ahead, along with a very good idea of the law enforcement procedures in place on a road.
A guy in our club makes and installs the mount. See his website HERE.
He also installed mine. The clarity is better than those little handheld radios. The mic contains all the guts for the CB, there is a litt;e junction box located under the rear of the passenger seat with an external speaker attached. I have no idea of the distance they will go, but have never had a problem when I have been in a caravan.

10-4 good buddy, welcome to the club. I'll take a CB over a radar detector any day. I have a KoolKat Antenna in my Z06. I don't know if they have a convertible solution or not, but its worth a look.
Hey, I was serious. Many Vette owners joke about have a CB antenna poking out of a Vette.
I'm a long time radio nut. I've had many CB's and I currently have an amateur radio license.
You're best bet is a "no groundplane" antenna as mentioned above. But, these antennas will never perform as well as an antenna with a ground plane. Typically, a car's rooftop or trucklid acts as a groundplane for the antenna. Any large metal flat surface will do.
I have a amateur radio installed in my Vert (Kenwood V7A) with a short antenna (zero gain) hidden in the truck. With 50 watts, I can still hit all the local repeaters.

Hi 123gone -
I apologize to you for the rolleyes....I thought you were one of the CB disbelievers....
Didn't know you were "one of us" lol.
you are correct - the NGP setup works very well - A friend took his Z06 after I installed his CB and antenna setup for him and he tested his trans and recieve while driving home -
I could hear him and he could hear me for almost 7 miles! It was a very clear day and it seemed almost too good to be true - but I was VERY impressed with the range.
Once again, I apologize to you for thinking the worst....
