Default BIG Problem. Need Help. 2004 Z06

For some reason, neither of my keys will go in the ignition. It's like there's something blocking it right inside the opening to the ignition. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? I've never heard of anything like this happening. Could it be a column lock issue or possibly a security system issue? Please help. Thanks.

Is the steering locked tight, is it harder to move than normal? Try moving the wheel to left or right to free up pressure on the lock and see if this helps. FWIW I've never heard of the keys not going in.
Also, when you have a tech question that is not Z06 specific and need a quick answer, C5 Tech usually has more people viewing than here.

Thanks for the advice. I posted this on the Tech forum. I'm just wondering if not being able to insert the key has anything to do with the CLB issue. This sucks! I can't even get the key in it much less drive it and the weather is beautiful today.

Take a flash light & a needle & look in there. The only time this happened to me one of my kids broke off a toy key in there! and no the column lock has nothing to do with the lock cylinder nothing but wires between them.

Make sure the ignition is turned all the way back (counter clockwise). If that's fine, put the key in the hole as far as it will go and rap it with a hammer a couple times to get it in. Just kidding!

That actually crossed my mind a couple of times. Ended up having to have the car towed to the dealer to be fixed. They said it was a broken ignition something or another. They didn't know what caused it? What matters is that it's up and running fine now. They also did the CL recall while they had it. I just hope they didn't f@$k up anything. Well, anyway. Off for a drive.

You need a new lock cylinder , the contacts in the cylinder for the pellet in your key have dislodged in the cylinder and made the key not able to be inserted. I have seen this many times.

That is exactly what happened. It was the first time I've personally ever heard of such a thing happening. But all is well now. The key did eventually go into the cylinder but it wouldn't crank. Luckily, I was at home when it happened. The bad part was the towing experience. The tow truck had to drag my car sideways from the rear to get it out of my garage so it could be pulled onto the flat bed. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

You still need a CLB...the recall did nothing to fix the potential problem of the steering locking up. Glad you got your ignition fixed!

I'm told the CLB doesn't work either. Who knows. I'll probably get one anyway just in case. Thanks for the heads up.

I have heard only the 98 and 99's may have an issue with the CLB. For all newer cars they work perfectly.
