Default First Exhaust Upgrade

Bought a new 04 C5 last August, and looking to upgrade the exhaust for a little more growl, but not off the charts. A friend of mine is looking to do the same, and I thought I would do some research. After reading a handful of magazines, there appear to be lot of choices. But I would suspect that there is a common choice amoung owners for a crossover and cat-back combination. I'm trying to avoid those brands that might be well advertised and end up being replaced by quality exhausts.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your going to get lots of choices because everyone has their own opinion on what they like. Best to listen to several systems before jumping into something you may not like after there in. I was all set to get the Borla Stingers until I heard the B&B PRTS. Thats what I have now and have love them.

Do the A&A exhaust mod, real cheap. If you don't like it, no loss, you were going to get a new exhaust anyway.

The link is only for the pics not the price, I paid 1/2 that.

You'll get lots of opinions on this topic. I have the B&B Route 66 exhaust with a Bassani X-pipe. Just the right amount of noise for me.

If you don't want something TOO loud, look at B&B Route 66, Corsa Touring, or Z06 ti.

Most exhaust systems have at least two, some three levels...

Bad, Badder, Baddest....

B&B RT 66 bad, B&B PRT badder, B&B Bullets baddest for example...
Corsa Touring for bad, Corsa Indy's for Badder...
Many others...

So for aggressive, but not too loud, try one of the "Bads".

But add headers, many will automatically upgrade to the next level...

H-pipes, etc will also change the exhaust "tune"...

Best you go out and find some and hear them for yourself

I agree, I have these also and I am satisfied with the sound as well. Not too loud with a nice deeper tone at idle. I also had the Magnaflow system and thought that they were on par with the B&B Route 66, maybe a slight bit louder with some interior resonance but not unbearable, but louder at WOT.

Here, you can take a listen to these as a starting point. I would suggest that you take a listen to what you like on a car before you buy. Also keep in mind that other mods will change the sound of the exhaust that you put on the car or that your hear at a local show.

BTW, I have Borla Stingers and love them.

ive been thinking about this also ...

one post stuck in my head, when he wrote, a police was gonna pull him over, instead pulled up and rolled down his window to ask 'nice sound, what pipes? ...for his vette' -- turned out to be bullets in think....

but i dont know what that means on the scale as ive not really heard them

ive heard some video files , the PRTs sound to burble and pop even at warm idle (i may be wrong, chaps who have em can correct at will..) - and go mad at WOT

i had the luxury of sitting in a mates last month fitted with Corsa Indy's - sounded really 'full bodied' at idle , just sort of like a baratone (sp) compared to stock ... i didnt get the chance to really hear them at WOT (city traffic) but he did Rev it up, when we were cruizing along after slipping it into neutral - ... let me just say it made me giddy and I laughed outload ... gloriously deep and menacing as it crescendo'd at the same time

Sounds like you can drive it gentle and let the other chaps reap the whirlwind, at will

Default Corsa exhaust recommendation

Corsa Indy was installed on my 2004 C5 in April and it sounds wonderful without waking the neighborhood. I am thinking about getting the x pipe too soon to offset some noise I do not like...especially when I am coming down a hill and using lower gears to save brakes or braking.

Best thing you did was come here, magazines won't help you much if at all on selecting an exhaust. There is no common choice among the crowd here. Most likely because there are a number of good exhaust systems to choose from. It just boils down to the type of sound you are looking for. The best advice I could give is find out if there are any Corvette get togethers in your area. Use the Events & Regional section of the forum to find out what's happening in your area. Summer time is practically here and there should be a number of events that will have large numbers of Vettes that you can hear their exhausts in person. And make a judgement on what sounds best to you. Do not rely on exhaust clips, if you want accurate info you've got to hear the system live. Ask the owners if they've done any mods that might enhance the sound, Headers, etc. this could effect how if sounds on your car. Resonance if any will also will differ depending on the gears and an automatic vs. manual transmission. There are a lot of variables, unfortunately there's no short answer. Good luck and let us know what you wind up with.

I'll have to throw in another vote for Borla Stingers. I've had Corsas on both my previous 'vettes ('96 & '01). I like the Stingers far, far better... sounds like the car has some guts. Lots of popping, though (which I happen to like).
