Default Door Lock Question

Hello everyone!!! i have a problem i didn't even know i had...i was at work and i left the vette at home....workers came to finish off the basement and my dad called me asking for my keys so he could move the vette to the garage further away from the door you enter the basement from...he moved it over hit lock and went upstairs...the workers were excited to see such a nice car and decided to see if it was open because they coudln't get a clear view of the interior due to the tinted windows...when he went to open the driver side door...IT OPENED!!!! and the alarm went off...dad went back downstairs and the guy who opened the door appologized and my dad hit lock again...and it woudln't lock the driver side door...i had no idea never bothered checking when i would park...i would just assume its locked...then my brother came home while i was still at work and he tried it several times and it did the same thing...so he had to lock it from the inside...ive had problems with this side before...when i go to unlock it sometimes it won't unlock the driver side door and i have to use the key...what could be wrong..it is still under warrenty

The same sort of thing happened to me. The car was in my garage and I hit the Lock button on the fob when I got out. Later, I went to open the driver's door. Before I remembered I locked it, I pulled the handle. To my surprise, the door opened and the alarm went off!

I have since forgot about the occurance until I read your thread. What is the problem and what can be done about it. I'm going out to check the lock right now...I'm paranoid now.

GOOD GOD, MAN!!! Good thing I went to check my door. The darn thing was unlocked just like before! I guess I haven't really locked my Vette since I got it! I played with it a little. The only way to lock the drivers door is to manually turn the lock lever inside.. The electric switch on the door doesn't even lock it! $hitballs!

Any suggestions?

Door lock actuator. Mine is at the dealer now for the same thing. Had the same symptoms - you could only lock the door manually but it would unlock OK. $285 repair.

It's probably the door control module for the driver's door. I've had mine replaced twice. Always use the button on the door to lock the car unless the top is off, then I use the fob. Mine would turn on the approach lights but not unlock the door. And a second press of the button would always unlock the passenger door.

Is the "door control module" the same as the "door lock actuator"?

Anyone know the part number and price of this part for a self-install?

Thanks for your help guys!

If you look at your codes, I think you might see there's been problems with your doors locking. I thought I was locking mine, too - I wasn't. I pulled codes and there were a bunch of them in there to do with the actuator.

Funny you should ask. Dealer just called and said in addition to the door lock actuator, I also need a new door control module. Go figure.

What specific codes am I looking for?

I pulled my codes. I have "U1064 H" in A0-LDCM, A1-RDCM, and B0-RFA. According to my references, this is a "Loss of communication with BCM"

To describe my symtoms: when I hit any of the lock buttons (door or fob) I hear the lock click but not move into the lock position. It unlocks as it should.

Do you know what they replaced, specifically?

I've had this same problem since I got my car in 2002. Both door control modules were replaced, the drivers side twice. The problem would always come back! The last time this started it then turned into a problem where intermitantly the dash lights would act up and the drivers door panel would go dead. Finally they found what I believe has been the problem from the beginning. There is a connector between the door and the door frame. That had several bad connections between the connectors from one side to the other. They replaced or tightened those connections and I haven't had a problem since. That was last summer.

Good luck with the fumbling idiots at the stealership......I have lost faith in their abilities....If it is out of warranty good luck...under warranty you can always take it back untill they stumble across the real problem. I hope you happen across a tech that can actually think!

the door lock started working fine again...but i had an appointment made for today so i took her in...they took apart the door...tried to put a new part in (i told them what the problem was on wednesday and they told me i could come in today (friday)) turned out to be the wrong part....i waited there for about 2 and a half hours...and they never wanted to put it back together and have to take it apart again tomorrow so they put me in a rental until tomorrow or whenever the part gets in...i told them to keep my baby inside and thats what they are doing...parked it at a station no one was working at...ill keep you guys posted on what happens next

I fixed my problem today!

As I mentioned earlier, my driver lock was not locking only unlocking. The forum suggested it was the common problem of the door module failing. So instead of spending about $230 (or whatever) on a new module, I found a "used" one on Ebay (paid $80). UPS delivered it today, plugged it in and IT WORKS AGAIN! It was a very easy repair and saved a bunch of money thanks to this forum! Thanks for the help guys. I hope you other guys' problems get solved as easy as mine did. Good Luck. Keep us updated.
