I looking at purchasing a 2001 coupe with 17,000 miles. The original warranty was for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Can I purchase another warranty somewhere? Thanks in advance for the replies.
Just look up auto warranties on the net. I just bought an 84 Month 75k bumper to bumper for my 02 from One Source for $1548 . I shopped all of the major and some of the minor players. they Had the best deal Ithought. I don't drive the car much so I wanted the most time not the most miles. I could have gotten up to 85K miles for a little more but will never put that many miles on it while I have it.
I bought a warranty for my 99 last year from warrantydirect...They will sell you a warranty even after the factory one has expired once the car passes their inspection....I got the leaky rear seal fixed last year and they paid for it with no complaints...
I bought a GMPP warranty from my dealer for my '02 just before the factory one went out, paid just over $900.00. It will cover it until January 2009 or 39,000 miles. A word of advice though, if possible get a $0 deductible otherwise they will want to hit you for the deductible for every item not every time. Mine was just $200.00 more to eliminate the $100.00 deductible.

He is past the point where he can buy an extended factory warranty.

Warranty direct has repaired my vette 3 times total cost over 5k without a problem.
I bought the GMPP "major Guard" warranty to cover me up to 100K miles (from Fichtners Chev) I asked the dealer in my area where repairs will be done and was told the $50.00 deduct. covered one problem or six problems.. not $50.00 per problem.
Try 1source Warranty. you can get an online instant quote and no phonecalls for the next 6 months, unlike most of the others, who are still calling and emailing me. Good Luck

Thanks. Luckily I didn't put my phone number in the quote box at WD.
what do these extended warranties cover exactly? i'm thinking of buying a vette sometime this year and wandering if i should get a warrantly. most likely i will buy the vette from a private party. any ideas? thanks.
If you can afford the extra, definetly go for it. Some of the cos. take payments for one year which makes it easier than one lump sum. Corvettes are not cheap to repair. I have purchased ext. warranties on all of my used cars including private owner if I intend to keep the car for any length of time. I have always come out on the winning end. My 99 300M I bought with 50k miles, got the warranty and have now broken even on the cost of the warranty. The next two years are on them! Good luck. sorry ,the answer to your question is they will cover as much as you want. The more coverage(bumper to bumper with 0 deductible ) is more than engine, drivetrain $100 deduct. and so on. you can pick the kind of coverage that suits your needs and budget.
Live nearby in Brea...In California there's one compnay, Warranty Direct at www.warrantydirect.com. I have '04 vert and will be buying as soon as I get close to the 36k at which the original expires. When you check it out bear in mind that in the warranty, when they quote mileage, it's the odometer and the length of the warranty is from when you buy it.
Example: I buy mine at 35.5k miles. On their website they give severals options, I choose the 5 year, 125k miles, $100 deductable for $2096. That means I'm getting covered for 5 years or 89.5k miles which ever comes first.
Did a lot of research into this and California puts a lot requirements for companies to offer these warranties in the state so there aren't many, in fact I found warranty direct and GM. GM's exteneded warranty is expensive and doen't extend out far enough for this SoCal driver.
