Has anybody drained and refilled ther trannie with new non-GM type fluid to help the Z shift any smoother? If so, what fluid did you use and what noticable changes did you encounter if any?
Been using AMSOIL ATF in my tranny for the last season and a half. My tranny sees pretty extreme duty and it is still running strong after over 16k total miles, almost four years of use, 10 DE days or so, and something like 27 SCCA T1 races.
could not believe the condition of stock fluids at only 700 miles on a new 2004. My friend did the same and fulids looked just as bad on his 2004 with 3600 miles. Noticed improvement in shifting with the 6spd.
I use Amsoil ATF in the trans... I may try Royal Purple Synchromax to see if it lives up to all the hype on here, if not it'll be right back to Amsoil.

Not sure what you will notice going from Amsoil. But in my02 Z w/15k on it. And I'm sure it is the original trans fluid. Swapping over to the RP Synchromax is a major improvement. It does go in/out of gears much smoother. 1-2, 2-3 shift is now much better.
And the GM Dexron fluid I pulled out was very dark. Did not have that bright red color to it at all. Must of been fairly dirty even though it is a closed system.
Now if all these aftermarket super fluids do not cause any long term problems with the synchros then life should be good.
