Diffierential change question!
Question for all of you!
If I want to swap out the 2.73 in my 98 (A4) with 3.42 do I need to buy a whole new Diffierential or just the rings? I am not sure what the hell I'm doing, but the mod bugs is be pumped in my viens relentlessly.

If I remember correctly, you have to buy a totally different housing for 3.15 and lower gear ratios. That's why the core charge for 2.73 gearboxes is almost nothing; they're only useful with 2.73 gears.
Can anyone else confirm that?
When I had my 04 coupe and upgraded from 2.73 to 3.42, I bought a low mileage Z06 shot peened gearbox from the C5 Parts for Sale.

there's one company that can upgrade gears in the 2 series Getrag case; and that's DTE.
But you can get a low mileage used 3.42 out of any 6 speed C5 for less money... but there's no warranty when buying used.
