Default Vararam VR2B Intake System question/s

Hi Guys,

Just installed the vararam system and it came with this type of filter;

Is this the new or old type?

The car is used as a daily driver with occasional 1/4 mile track use, looking for advice! Would I be better installing the KN 33-2522 or keeping the filter above, also have read about hydrolock is it possible to get water passed either filter whilst driving in rain (Thats an important question as I am here in UK and rains alot)

As regarding times we are running at Santa Pod tomorrow (drag strip) Weather permitting and will see if vararam has improved times. Best times on stock filter was 13.44. Will post results.

If it's thick (3 layer) foam that is difficult to see through, it's the new one.

Use the foam filter. The K&N filter will make you noticeably slower.

Since that's a pic of my filter, I'll deposit my $.02.

That is the latest Baja filter pictured there and is VaraRam's latest and greatest so use it of you won't be running the K&N. Despite some experiences to the contrary, mine has done a great job in filtering. Here's a shot of how clean my TB was after ~1K miles. In front of the filter was filthy but upstream was spotless.

Thats the new one. I have the same filter, Vararam 2B. I just received a K&N filter. I ordered the K&N after, I read that scary thread two or three days ago. I'm going to look at my throttle body, and if it is clean, I'll keep the K&N around for insurance, but leave the foam filter in for now.

I agree that is the new filter, it has been around a while though it used to be called the baja filter. It was available when I bought my vararam 2 years ago, but I opted for the discontinued HP filter. I would say it is a judgement call, it will obviously flow better but with that you will lose filtering efficiency. As far as hydro lock foam filters are normally considered the safest filters for a hydro lock situation. Other filters tend to collapse when wet and foam filter will not. Good luck.
