Default Test drove a C6

Well I got bored today and saw I had gotten a flyer from a local Chevy dealer offering 100% of original MSRP for a trade in vehicle when trading up to the new 2005 model. So I thought what the hell, worst case I get to test drive a C6 and see what all the comotion is about. Pulled up in the C5 rollin on the 505A's and every salesman on the whole damn lot flocked to my car. They just happened to have a black 05 with polished wheels and a 6 speed right there on the lot I handed the flyer to the first salesman who I was closest to and said "go get the keys for that C6." He went in and I parked and all the salesmen were gawking at my Vette. One of them was even asking if I would sell it to him personally if I don't trade it. I kindly told him I don't want to be without a Vette. So anyways now for the ride:

Interior road noise was significantly better. Handling was ehh okay (not a Z51), maybe just a slight notch better than my C5. Power... it had some *****, but needed more IMO. Still pretty good for stock I suppose. Not at all what I had anticipated from all the reviews I've read. (Mines definately faster tho :P) I was actually considering trading up (they weren't getting the wheels tho!) I wouldn't mind putting C6 polished wheels on the T/A and sportin the CCW's on a C6

Once we got back they test drove my C5 and went over it with a fine tooth comb. Then he ran some BS numbers by the director he comes back and made it extreemly easy for me to laugh in his face and walk He all of a sudden started throwing more numbers out at me as I stood up. I told him he wasn't even close on offering me what their flyer said and I don't even want to consider dealing with him. I told him his offer was an insult and to give me my keys now!

Conclusion: I think I'll keep the C5 for a while longer... But I wouldn't mind having a C6 also tho

Default 2 for the price of one

called chevy dealer and went through all the steps. wanted to order a c6 vert fully loaded. dealer had allocation and i was willing to wait.
was quoted over 64,000 plus tax less 1000 off sticker. i was offered 30,000 for my 2003 50ae coupe with 7,000 miles.
c6 would cost me my c5 50ae plus extra 34,000 plus 8.5 % tax on 34,000. while i was standing there i looked across the street and saw a pontiac dealer with - 2005 gto torrid red 1 blue. i told the salesman i would think about it and let him know. i drove across the street to the pontiac dealer and checked out the 2005 "goat" 6 speed. was told i could walk away with the new fully loaded gto for about 33,00 plus tax. now love it or hate it, i think its cool . i am thinking of keeping the c5 and getting the 05 goat (i only pay 1000 a year full cover so two cars wont really hurt my wallet) and having two nice rides.
why not? is c6 that much of an upgrade on c5? i have to think this one over, besides i am not happy taking 30k for a car that cost me almost 50k 2 years ago.any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I think that you're right on the money. Your car with 7,000 miles plus $34K for a C6 vert? That's nuts unless you just plain have way too much money.

Went over to the C6 forum to check things out and quite a number of C6's have the oil consumption problem that once plaqued some of the C5's ....

When I read that they were also going to use low tension oil rings I thought those posts couldn't be too far behind. Just stupid.

It's just down right crazy to think that GM would let this problem happen again? You think they would have tested the engine for problems of this nature before production ... then again prototype and production results are two different things. In either case I feel for Corvette owners that have this problem especially when you spend that much money on a car.

I haven't been over there in a while. But the last time I was over there I saw complaints which were mostly centered around the electrical system. One instance of a passenger door opening at cruising speed. Multiple instances of FOBs not being recognized by the car, that sort of thing along with the numerous instances of wobbly pulleys and shreaded belts.

At least I don't have to worry about my door opening by itself when driving! Thats scarry!
