Please explain to this dumb *** what a by pass is for a column lock. I have not taken my Z06 to the dealer and frankly don't want to. How and where do I get one of these AND who would I get to install it....I have 10 thumbs and no brain for mechanical things.

Well I have one you can purchase brand new from Thunder racing. PM me if interested. You can probably install it yourself they say the directions are straight forward. I had the dealer option done while my car was in for something else!
I've installed many. It's a 30 minute job at best and all you need to remove is the drivers side knee bolster (pad under the steering column). Its plu and play err drive.
The by pass will prevent a locking pin from engaging (and locking the steering column). The problem is and has been for many years now is that it sometimes fails to un-lock. Leaving you stranded and needing to call a flat-bed truck for a tow to your local Cheby dealer. Think how fun this would be out on the town on a Sat night, or on a trip when you pull nose first into a parking spot at a highway rest stop miles from home.
Pay the $55 and buy and install the by-pass. Two recalls have failed to correct the problem.
AFVette, just ordered my column bypass from thunderracing. You've convinced me that I need it! One question, the guy on the phone said they did away with the cigarette lighter adapter. Said it was a running change, and that it wasn't necessary - and that everything is in the kit that I need. How did they get around this?
I am concerned about this as well. I think I work in the same building as you but I haven't been able to find you. Can you please call X-1358 at work. I bought mine used and can't tell what has been done to it. Can the dealer tell me if this is done on mine? Help!
