Took a ride up to Lake Arrowhead for the weekend. The road going up the hill has some great deep banked turns you can really have some fun with. Well on one particular curve I was having a little too much fun according to my copilot. As I (shall we say spiritedly?) exited the turn into the straight away I gave her enough to get the A4 to drop to 2nd and give me that slingshot effect coming out of the turn. All taking place right in front of a CHP who was sitting right off the side of the road around the curve. I immediately let up on the throttle "no brakes" and beings I was headed up the hill passed him at just a little "over spiritedly" He pulled out immediately and followed a couple cars back for about a mile then pulled on past me and disappeared. I saw quite a few more over the weekend but I was a little more subdued in my driving and passed them without worry.
I turned left from a back road to another back road and lit the tires up for the first time ever, got around the scene of the smoke, and quickly eased up off the throttle when a Va State gentleman crossed into my lane to avoid a bicylist... one more lucky star fell from the sky that day!
I know the feeling well, as I have turned too many corners on my way to and from work to spot Raleigh Constable. I have always been able to pull it down in time to avoid a little roadside chat......so far.
Here on Crow Canyon Road, some folks still follow the tradition of turning on their headlights or flashing oncoming traffic if they have just passed lurking law enforcement.
