Now that is what a C6 should have looked like! That looks great!
I COMPLETELY agree!! Instead of the C5.1 which is what the C6 actually is.
The updated GTM design is FAR nicer than the old one. Here's a pic of the old one:
I'm SO glad they rethought that rear-end. WAY cooler looking than the Ultima, though the Ultima performance numbers are amazing! I actually don't mind the rear wing and I'm not usually a wing guy.
Here are some more pics of the updated design:
Quote from the website:
"When pressed, Jim Schenck (FFR engineer and design team leader of the GTM project) projects a 0-60 mph time in the mid 3’s and a ¼ mile time in the 11 seconds range… That’s with a stock corvette 350 hp engine."
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!! Can you imagine what it would be after mods????!!!!
Price for the kit currently set to be $19,900... Looks like I'll be scouring the countryside for wrecked C5s!!
Dave Smith, the owner of Factory Five, told me he will see the complete kit for under $20,000. I have built 3 Factory Five kits and they are easy to build and have a good customer base to help. I'm thinking it could be built for for under $35,000 with a very nice paint job or under $30,000 if you take your time looking for parts and do most of the body work yourself of find a hungry painter.
Besides the kit, here's what the Factory Five site says you'll need:
What IS NOT included with the kit?
Parts not included with the kit – except the transmission which is a G50 from a Porsche 911 - come from the C5 (1997-2004) Corvette. The parts that customers will need to use from a 1997-2005 C5 Corvette include (but are not limited to)…
- Chevrolet Corvette (LS1) engine with computer and harness.
- Front and rear control arms (upper and lower), spindles, and brakes
- Steering column
- fuel tanks (not a typo – there are in fact two tanks in the Corvette)
- Wheels
- Mirrors
- Exhaust manifolds
- Radiator and fan assembly
I've been following this design for quite some time. The interesting thing is there is really very little off a wrecked Corvette that you'd need. You could buy a new LS2 crate motor (or maybe LS7). They say you need Corvette wheels, but that can't be true since the specs on the wheels are supposedly 18x10s all the way around. I'd also probably buy some performance control arms and some tricker looking mirrors. OBVIOUSLY wouldn't be using the Corvette seats. So that leaves radiator and fan assembly, exhaust manifolds, fuel tanks, steering colum, and wiring harness. Maybe also the windshield? Should be able to pick that stuff up for next to nothing! Paint and wheels/tires would probably be the biggest expense after the kit itself.
I'd love to see it with those carbon fiber wheels that were on here a few weeks ago. Would match the front lip quite nicely.

Man, I too have been following the making of this kit since August last year. It has really turned out nice, and I really would like to see if I can have one in my garage.

I will probably build one, but I wonder how much the donor parts or a wrecked C5 will cost. Any idea?
I have a 2001 C5 Convertible and it's too nice to start parting out.

You can pick up a used LS1 for about 1500
Used Z06 wheels for about 500
Manifolds are dirt cheap b/c alot of people upgrade to headers
Not sure about control arms, mirrors and steering.
I have to agree with everyone else that said THIS should have been the C6. Or something a lot like it. It just makes sense! If a car is evolving towards race specs, then shouldnt it become wider and lower? Why is the C6 pinched narrower and taller?
This is the best looking Kit Car I have seen. I would be proud to be seen in that! Id love to see the look on Viper owners faces when you pull up next to them in the GTM and steal all that thunder!
How does someone go about insuring something like that? Oh who cares, Daddy needs a new toy!
