I apologize in advance for the lenth of my post but I figure the more details I can give you the better advice and help I can get. Thanks to everyone. Monday of this week I left work and was heading to the gym. About halfway to gym the traction control system and ABS system words come on the display screen informing me to check each system. Also both lights came on next to the MPH gauge. Went to the gym did my work out and when I started it back up after my work out it was gone. So I went ahead and turned the traction control system off and went home. It never came on during the 20 to 30 minutes it took me to get to my house. So I figured it reset itself and it was gone. This morning again about halfway to work both come back on the display screen and lights came on. I looked in the manual that comes with the car and of course it is no help. It just says to have it looked at. So heres some of my questions. I've had the car now for about a month and a half and I dont have an actual manual to look it up and get mor details. One, should this be a serious concern of mine and immediatly have it looked at by a perfessional? Two, the whole time I've had the vehicle I have just left the traction control system on and not worry about it. Is this bad or good? Should it be left off all the time unless road conditions are bad? Or does everyone just leave it on? Basically if anyone has had some experience and knowledge of this happening to them I would appreciate any help. Hopefully this is somthing I can fix myself. I dont know if this would matter but my back brakes have been squeaking somewhat as well.
Could me a bad ABS sensor, but could be many things.
You should drive with the Traction Control permanently engaged for safety. The idea is to turn if off only when you want to have some fun/dyno the car/drag race.

Cheers,
Ian.
I'm taking mine in for the same exact thing in soon.
Mine has been doing that for a few weeks now. The abs traction control system will inadvertently engage even under normal controlled driving conditions. If I leave it on, it will eventually tell me to service the system and turn itself off. One other thing that started happening was the steering wheel started squeaking when turning. Anyway, took it to the dealer and they said I had a "bad steering wheel sensor"? Probably meant the ABS sensor someone else alluded to. Anyway, they said this sensor was causing both issues, including the squeaky steering wheel. They didn't have the sensor in stock, so I will be taking it in again this Friday. Hopefully this will fix it, cuz taking my car to the dealer is worse than going to the dentist.

A/H utilizes a sensor in the steering to determine the driver's steering input. Other sensors determine the car's actual yaw rate and the lateral G load on the vehicle.
My Service AH/TC/ABS was comeing on and off for a few weeks. I would erase the codes and all would go back to normal. One day it came on and could not clear so I was curious to see if it was just a glitch in the system or if system really had problems. I took it out on a secluded section of highway and got her up to about 45MPH and slammed on the brakes! Yep, the ABS did'nt work and all I could see in my rearview was smoke and my car sliding sideways!! Took it straight to the dealer and turned out to be the EBCM and BVMP. They had to replace the two parts costing nearly $3000.00!!! Thankfully it was covered under warranty so nothing out of pocket. IMO you better take it in; the brakes work very well, without ABS you could be in some real trouble in an emergency. Good Luck!
Last October the same exact thing happened to me. The Active Handling, Traction Control and ABS sensors went off all at once. This happened about three times over a period of about a week. I contacted the place where I purchased the vehicle. I was getting ready to leave town for a trip (flying, not driving), so he recommended to bring the vehicle in when I got back a week later. When I got back from my trip, the sensors were no longer going off. Well, just a couple weeks ago, they went off again - all three. Happened twice in two days. Now they haven't gone off since. I can't see this being a serious problem due to the fact of about 7 months in between this happening.
Obviously if it starts up again - and continues more than a time or two, I will have it looked into. But at this point, seems like a "short" to me.

I know what you mean about the dealership. I never trust what they do or whos driving it. If you dont mind let me know how it goes and what they find.

Well that sucks I dont have my wranty any more. Its a 99 and 3 grand would suck. Thanks for the input though.

Mine has been doing it since I got it 2 years ago. Had it in the shop under warranty at least three times. Last time they replaced the battery and it started working fine. Turns out with a low battery or bad cell in a battery it can't supply the proper amps the ABS Pump motor needs to work the system. Thats why the BVMP code in the system. (means pump motor failed) Mine was so bad it kept blowing the 40amp fuse. They are 5 bucks each at AutoZone. Well, the GM Stock battery (after a year) is getting weak and its acting up again. Doesn't do it all the time. In fact if I use it, it will work and as I continue to drive it will within a mile shut the system down. I've learned as I drive to run the diagnostics and clear the codes so the system is again active and the dash lights are off. If it won't reset I know the fuse is blown. I refuse to pay $3,000 dollars to repair a system that will only crap out again. Besides I think the techs just guess and change things expecting it to get better until the warranty is out. As always "good luck"

Thats comforting to know that it could be as simple as replacing the battery. I also agree that replacing those components for 3 grand is a waste. I would much rather spend that money on performance parts. And obviously you've had this issue for a couple of years and I'm guessing that you just learn to live with it.Thanks again for your help.
