Default wheel weights question

the dealer mounted my tires and they put the weights on the outside of the rim, would there be any reason that the wheel weights can not go on the inside of the rim so the outer rim does not get damaged?? thanks for any advise.

I have never seen a wheel that could not accept weights on the inside, in fact I have chrome rims and I would never put weights on the outside. They do the same from what I've been told, the ones on the inside just look better

My '01 came with them on the outside. Hate it. I have replaced wheels on my other vehicles and ALWAYS ask for them to be on the inside. I usually get the "We got us a real fancy shmancy PIA here" look.

We just put new wheels and tires on mine and all of the weights were mounted on the backside as well ... per request of course. If I wasn't there, they would have set the weights on the fronts too.

Both sets of wheels I have are balanced with the weights to the inside. If left on long enough, weights on the outside rim will mar the finish.

That’s BS, weights do not have to be mounted on the outside. In fact they can damage the wheels. I had my local dealer install stickles on my New Chromed wheels (April 2000). At first service manger said could not be done. I told him I worked at a speed shop in the 60s 70s era and had done many wheels that way. He called the service teck over and the teck said yes it could be done on the inside with stickles, but would take a little longer as he had more work to do. Still the service manger said that they would not guarantee the job, I accepted that as I knew from past experience it would work. (You would think a service manager would know something about what he was talking about)
Bottom line I got charged a 1/2hr more shop time, and got what I wanted.

Tested the car out that night at speeds up to 140mp, all was fine. Went back to dealer the next day and gave the mechanic a $25 tip it was well worth it!
