Pure gold I tells ya
Never, Ever let your car out of your sight at a dealer ship.
Never, Ever let your car out of your sight at a dealer ship.
I personally wouldn't complain if it takes too long just unless they mess something up.
Also, seems some of the larger dealerships are better to deal with in my experiences. Might try someone else next time, or find a good mechanic who's had a few vettes in his time.
I *just* got my car back from the local GM dealership after taking it in for 3rd-gear grinding issues in the transmission. Like you, I was paranoid about having the dealer work on the car, but being that it is under GM's factory warranty I had no choice but to trust a dealership for the repair.
Two-weeks and 6-days later
, I was able to pick my car up and drive it home. During that long wait, I was paranoid, angry, worried, anxious, frustrated, sad, etc. After reading all the horror stories on this site I figured I'd get my car back with tons of paint scratches/dings with 250+ more miles on the odometer and a host of dealer-inflicted post-repairs just waiting to eat my wallet. But, you know what? None of that happened.Over one week of the delay was caused by transmission parts being damaged during shipment; evidently GM ships some parts in a plastic bags rather than protective boxes
. Oh well, one of them was given to me by the tech to have as a desk ornament
. So, they eventually received good parts and completed the rest of the transmission and rear-end rebuild. In the end, the wait was well worth it. The car shifts better now than it ever has, the tranny/diff received upgraded/hardened parts, and some drivetrain noises are now completely gone - over $2600 in warranty repairs! Plus, the dealership only put 14 miles on the car. Because of the delay, they even detailed the entire car inside and out - and did a great job considering I'm very **** about whoever touches my car, let alone wash it.
Every dealership is different, and I've had bad experiences in the past (like over 100+ "testing" miles on a Trans Am I used to own), but I think I've found a dealership I can start to trust.
Hopefully, you've found one as well. I'd be more concerned about the quality of work they perform rather than repair duration. If you rush them, no telling what you may end up with. Just let the service consultant know your concerns/worries and ask to chit-chat with the tech if at all possible. Any quality service center will allow this tech-customer conversation. Mine did, and once they allowed this communication I felt much better about having them work on it.
My $0.02.

Makes me glad I am not leaving my car at the dealer for the recall that it has!
